BWW Review: Paramount's MAMMA MIA! Happily Goes Again, Not Resisted
by Patrick O'Brien - Sep 19, 2016

The unquestioned immortality of Mamma Mia! took a hit last year when its Broadway run came to an end after playing fourteen years, two theatres and 5,773 performances. Now comes the question of its unavoidability. Somehow, I've managed to - okay, maybe not avoid it, which implies snobbishness on my part - but Mamma Mia! has just never been on my radar. It'll be around forever - or at least as long as Boomer nostalgia sells - so that leaves plenty of time to catch up on other things, my thought process went. But now begins what will presumably turn into a licensing blitz, and Aurora's Paramount Theatre leads the bell-bottomed charge into Chicagoland. So here we go again for the first time, I guess.

Wilbury Group to Open 2016 with STUPID F***ING BIRD
by Tyler Peterson - Dec 14, 2015

The Wilbury Theatre Group is proudly continues its 2015/16 season with the Rhode Island premiere of Stupid f**king Bird (or, Stupid F#*%ing Bird), January 21-February 6, 2016. Written by acclaimed director and playwright Aaron Posner based on Anton Chekhov's masterpiece work, The Seagull, and directed by Mark Peckham, Stupid f**king Bird is the smash hit play that The Washington Post describes as a 'savvy, petulant blitz through The Seagull that's less an adaptation of Chekhov's landmark drama than a funny, moving slugfest, a ripe mashup of mock and awe...sometimes it blows Chekhov up, and sometimes the play explodes with a genuinely Chekhovian release of emotion. The show is smart enough to have it both ways: It mines The Seagull for classical heft even while giving it the bird.'

About the Playwright: Harold Pinter
by Roundabout Theatre Company - Sep 29, 2015

Harold Pinter was born in Hackney, in London's East End, in October of 1930. An only child, he was born to Jewish parents of very moderate means; his father, a tailor, and his mother, a homemaker, were first-generation descendants of Eastern European immigrants. Like many of his contemporaries, Pinter's childhood was shaped by the onslaught of World War II; at the age of nine, he was evacuated from London through Operation Pied Piper and resettled in a town in Cornwall. The sense of isolation he felt in Cornwall would come to influence his work, as would the changed London to which he returned during the Blitz, where he was witness to, as his 2008 Guardianobituary put it, 'the dramatic nature of wartime life - the palpable fear, the sexual desperation, the genuine sense that everything could end tomorrow.'
