Country music duo Halfway to Hazard paid tribute to the late Troy Gentry yesterday when they performed during his memorial service at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. Chad Warrix and David Tolliver saluted their longtime friend and fellow Kentuckian with an acoustic performance of 'My Old Kentucky Home.' 'Troy was our brother, our mentor and our friend. He always said 'you're gonna play the Opry, I'll make it happen,' says Tolliver. 'He made it happen. Not like Chad or I wanted but he kept his word. I can't describe the emotions that went through me yesterday but I had a peace inside, it was like Troy was giving us one last gift. I'll miss him and his smile.'

The Old Globe today announced that due to popular demand, the exciting Globe-commissioned world premiere comedy Ken Ludwig's Robin Hood! has now extended again, through September 10! This is the second and final extension for the hit show, which previously announced a one-week addition through September 3. American Composers Orchestra (ACO) announces its complete 2017-2018 season, Dreamscapes, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, featuring ten world, U.S., and New York premieres by a diverse set of composers. ACO continues its concerts at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (December 8, 2017 and April 6, 2018) while expanding its presence in New York to include performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center (November 7, 2017) and as part of the 2018 PROTOTYPE Festival (January 12-14, 2018). ACO continues to take its commitment to fostering new work beyond the stage in its annual Underwood New Music Readings (June 21 and 22, 2018) for emerging composers, now in its 27th year, and through EarShot, the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network, which brings the Readings experience to orchestras across the country.

More than 44 musicians with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra join a cast of professional singers and dancers from the United States and Europe in Shining A New Light on the Arts, an original blend of cutting-edge classical and contemporary performing arts. The two-act Pacific Arts Society production on Saturday, July 29 at 8 p.m. features an elaborate counterpoint of soaring classical vocals matched by lyrical and spirited dance.

With the challenges of putting a brand new musical on its feet, finding a moment where actress Alysha Umphress could steal away from rehearsal for this interview was a challenge of its own. And when we did connect, it was not without technical difficulties on my end, and a coffee spilling fiasco on her end as she prepared for her long day of rehearsal. Through it all, Alysha, who has appeared on Broadway in AMERICAN IDIOT, ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER, PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT, BRING IT ON and ON THE TOWN (starring opposite DFW's Jay Armstrong Johnson), was upbeat, down-to-earth, excited to talk about her new big gig, and just as happy to humor me with stories from her early career.

What a show! Opera Theatre of St. Louis has opened The Grapes of Wrath, a work by Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie. I have never in my life been more emotionally moved by an opera than by this glorious production.
