When asked why she hadn't written her memoirs, Pauline Kael referred to her vast body of film criticism and replied, "I think I have". Love in the Dark returns Kael's voice to Berkeley in this solo performance that draws from her interviews, lectures, and many volumes of criticism. As a broadcast reviewer for KPFA, curator for The Berkeley Cinema Guild, and legendary film critic for The New Yorker, Kael responded to movies with her entire being, proving that engagement with film was no passive act. Every week, Kael's beautifully brash, disarmingly candid voice delivered postmortems that enlightened and enraged, and along the way told the story of a woman and her biggest crush - the movies.
