TheatreWorks, the nationally acclaimed theatre of Silicon Valley, kicks off its 45th season with the World Premiere of THE GREAT PRETENDER, a touching comedy about friendship, love, and learning to let go by Broadway playwright David West Read. The show runs July 9 through August 3, 2014.

The runaway hit of TheatreWorks' 2013 New Works Festival, THE GREAT PRETENDER follows the host of a once-iconic children's TV show who discovers that people, as well as puppets, sometimes need a helping hand.

Directed by Stephen Brackett, THE GREAT PRETENDER will kick off the 2014 TheatreWorks New Works Festival, at which leading playwrights and composers from across the country present new works to audiences who can participate in discussions, view works-in-progress, and attend book-in-hand readings of and sing-throughs of new musicals.
