Broadway/San Diego ~ A Nederlander Presentation is excited to announce the 2017-2018 season and the San Diego premiere engagement of HAMILTON. This is the biggest season ever with shows direct from Broadway, mega-hits from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Rodgers and Hammerstein, and returning San Diego favorites all sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union®.

The 2017-2018 Season begins with the most award-winning musical of the 2015-16 Broadway season, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS. Then, take a voyage under the sea with one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories with Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID. The world's greatest love story continues with this spellbinding sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webber's biggest hit in LOVE NEVER DIES. The Webber hits keep coming with his most- recent rock musical sensation, SCHOOL OF ROCK. One of two Rodgers and Hammerstein classics coming to San Diego this season and winner of four 2015 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, is THE KING AND I. Rounding out the season is a show that will have you dancing in the aisles with the inspiring true story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan in ON YOUR FEET! about two people who believed in their talent, each other, and their road to becoming an international sensation.

Six of our seven subscription shows are Broadway/San Diego debuts; along with some of the biggest mega-hits in musical theater history returning to the Civic Theatre," he added.

Added season events this year include returning San Diego audience favorites like Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, MOTOWN THE MUSICAL, DIRTY DANCING and STOMP, and two of Broadway's longest running shows, LES MISE?RABLES and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

September 5-10, 2017

Acclaimed director/choreographer and 2015 Tony Award®-winner Christopher Wheeldon brings the magic and romance of Paris into perfect harmony with unforgettable songs from George and Ira Gershwin. Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID

THE LITTLE MERMAID IS Broadway's Under the Sea Spectacular! In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories, with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, it's a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. Come fall in love with the magic for the first time-or all over again with classics such as "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl, "Part of Your World" and more! HAMILTON

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, HAMILTON is based on Ron Chernow's biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

HAMILTON is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation's first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, HAMILTON is the story of America then, as told by America now.

Rating: HAMILTON is appropriate for ages 10+ since there is some strong language.

LOVE NEVER DIES

March 27-April 1, 2018
LOVE NEVER DIES is Andrew Lloyd Webber's spellbinding sequel to one of the most successful musicals of all time - THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Ten years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House, the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York... where he has finally found a place for his music to soar. The only thing missing is Christine. But the Phantom will stop at nothing to win back her love. Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. This high-octane smash features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, all the original songs from the movie and musical theater's first-ever kids rock band playing their instruments live on stage. THE KING & I

The 2015 Tony Award®-winner for Best Musical Revival, THE KING AND I, will soon be "getting to know you," San Diego. The Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, directed by Bartlet Sher, is set in 1860's Bangkok. It tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and the British schoolteacher he brought in to teach his many wives and children.
