Cygnet Theatre will be staging the powerful and bold coming-of-age musical Spring Awakening, and to add to the excitement, they will be bringing Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik to San Diego for a special one-night only event on March 24, 7:30 pm.

Director Sean Murray and Music Director Terry O'Donnell will be the hosts of An Evening with Duncan Sheik, which will include an on-stage intimate conversation with the composer about his creative process, his work and how musical theater resonates with him. Sheik's appearance is funded in part by a National Endowment for the Arts grant which also helps make this evening affordable and accessible to young theatre-goers.

In addition to writing the music for eight-time Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening, Grammy award nominated singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik has collaborated with Playwright Steven Sater on Umbrage, Nero, The Nightingale (La Jolla Playhouse) and Alice by Heart. Duncan's other works include Twelfth Night, Whisper House (Old Globe), Because of Winn Dixie, and American Psycho. His self-titled debut album, which was an enormous popular and critical success, introduced the hit singles "Barely Breathing" and "She Runs Away," and spent 30 weeks on the Billboard 200. Other albums include Humming, Daylight, Phantom Moon with lyrics by Steven Sater, White Limousine, Whisper House (concept album), and Covers 80's. Sheik also composed many film soundtracks and composed and produced the original score for the feature film A Home at the End of the World, directed by Michael Mayer and starring Colin Farrell.

Tickets for An Evening with Duncan Sheik are $20; $10 for subscribers.
