The Classic Theatre of San Antonio, continuing its Classic Presents series of vibrant visiting artists, will host another far-flung Texas native, Elaine Liner, with her one-woman knitting circle, Sweater Curse: A Yarn About Love.

A Trinity University alum, Liner is a theatre critic by day and an enthusiastic knitter always. She describes the play as having "downloaded" directly to her brain. Looking up knitting patterns online, she came across the story of the "sweater curse," an old wives' tale about not knitting for your lover (or else he'll leave before you finish the sweater). Intrigued by the idea, Liner began to write about her own unfinished knitting and unfinished relationships, finding inspiration in such famous knitters and weavers as Odysseus's Penelope or Madame DeFarge. Stitched into the story is Liner's love for old movies, classic literature and plenty of yarn-based humor.

Liner will be fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival-the largest arts festival in the world-where she performed Sweater Curse in August. She has toured all over Texas, in small theatres and large.

Elaine Liner will be appearing at the Classic for four nights only: Productions on Thursday through Saturday will begin at 8:00; Sunday at 3:00. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the Box Office at 210-589-8450, or visit us online at www.classictheatre.org. Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted.
