Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre has opened a new season of the musical masterpiece Bizet

The "Carmen" very curious theatrical fate. The premiere of the opera by the French composer Georges Bizet took place in France, in Paris, in the theater "Opera Comique" March 3, 1875 and ended ... a complete failure. Nobody denied the genius of the musical material, however, Parisians considered tempted the audience, were not ready for such realism on the stage. Metropolitan French newspapers competed in hlestkosti critical reviews of "Carmen" opera:

"The modest mother, Conscript Fathers of the family! With faith in the tradition you have brought your daughters and wives to give them a decent, decent evening entertainment. Such reviews have created a "Carmen" immense popularity. Only on the stage of the Paris Opera Comique, and only in the premiere season passed about fifty performances. Nevertheless, the "Carmen" for a long time disappeared from the podiums of Paris and was resumed only in 1883, in the wording of the composer Ernest Guiraud, who replaced the spoken dialogue recitatives, and added a few ballet scenes, using music from other works by Georges Bizet. To a large extent the return of opera to the Parisian scene contributed to the triumphal march of "Carmen" in the cities of Europe, Russia and America.

In 1880, Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote:

"Bizet's opera - a masterpiece, one of the few things that are destined to reflect itself in the strongest degree of musical aspirations of an era. In ten years of "Carmen" will be the most popular opera in the world ... "

Fatal Beauty, which brought so much grief to its creator (a crushing failure of the premiere), after the death of Georges Bizet won all the opera houses of the world. One can hardly find a theater that would not have succumbed to its charm. The popularity of "Carmen" is not limited to the operatic stage: in the Bizet music created a ballet, it exists in the piano transcription, cinematic versions. Opera Music - nothing on a similar, always up to date, bright, affordable and at the same time profound. An incredible combination of completely contradictory things put forward this work in a number of the other opera masterpieces: carnival, unbridled energy and the main dramatic plot a different love and death. The opera "Carmen" - a Shakespearean scope, history, open to interpretations and readings.

After a long break, the numerous requests of the audience Yekaterinburg theater decided on a new production of the opera. It was a year of double anniversary "Carmen": 170 years ago, was published novel by Prosper Merimee, and 140 years ago in Paris the premiere of Bizet's opera.

In Yekaterinburg theater this is the 13th version of the "Carmen". Opera became a poster of the first theatrical season of 1912-1913., And the last time was set in 1993, the year.
