York Little Theatre Launches '09-'10 Season 'Imagination-The Real Alt Energy'

York Little Theatre, one of the areas oldest and largest non-profit community theatres, announced its 2009-2010 Season along with its new theme: Imagination-The Real Alternative Energy. YLT seeks to be an imagination destination--providing an energized creative outlet not only for audiences but also for our talented and diverse community of actors, artists and creative engineers. The Mainstage Season of four productions seeks to provide entertaining and exciting experiences to please all audiences. The coming season features four blockbuster musicals beginning with Forbidden Broadway: Greatest Hits, which is a loving lampoon of Broadway's greatest moments and pays tribute to its hit musicals and top performers. It promises to be fast, funny, smart and entertaining and runs September 4 - 20, 2009. Beauty and the Beast, (November 6 - 22, 2009), is Broadway's classic fairy-tale in which a young woman's life is transformed into a fantastic adventure when she becomes the key to breaking an enchantress' curse on a spoiled prince. A Chorus Line, (March 12 - 28, 2010), is a brilliantly complex fusion of dance, song and compellingly authentic drama and tells of the achingly poignant ambitions of professional Broadway gypsies to land a job in a Broadway musical. The Mainstage Season ends with Hairspray (July 9 - 25, 2010), pending availability. Hairspray brings us back to 1962, the heyday of hair-dos and hair-don'ts, and when pleasantly plump teen Tracy Turnblad will teach Baltimore a thing or two about integration.

The Studio Series of four productions features provocative and evocative performances which draw audiences in with a unique look at what it means to be human. They are powerful and edgy pieces which challenge audiences to examine how they interact with the world around them. The coming season begins with Frozen, (October 9 - 18, 2009), which entwines the lives of a murderer, the mother of his victim, and a psychologist, to explore our capacity for forgiveness and remorse after an horrific act that threatens to leave us frozen. 12 Angry Jurors, (January 15 - 24, 2010), takes a look at the true democratic process of our legal system when a 19-year-old man faces sentencing for the fatal stabing of his father in what appears to be an open-and-shut case. Once on This Island, (April 16 - 25, 2010), is a musical which tells the story of a peasant girl who saves and falls in love with the son of wealthy family. She is then set on a quest by the gods to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. The Studio Series ends with Shared Assets, (June 18 - 27, 2010), the winner of YLT's annual PA Original Playwright Competition, which presents a comic look at corporate America through a battle between a businesswoman turned diner-entrepreneur and a scheming sales rep for the future of a promising florist.

The rabbittransit children's series presents magical productions for the whole family which are performed by casts of all ages and designed to entertain, delight and expose youth to theatre. The season begins with a holiday production of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, (December 11 - 20, 2009), which stages E.T.A. Hoffman's story of a young girl's quest to break the curse placed on her animated Nutcracker and defeat the evil Mouse King. Dracula, (February 12 - 21, 2010), dramatizes Bram Stoker's original horror classic and tells the saga of Jonathon Harker and his fiance' Mina as they are drawn into dark battle with a terrifying force unleashed upon Victorian England-the Vampire, Dracula. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, (May 14 - 23, 2010), showcases the fantastic imagination of Lewis Carroll and the classic story of Alice, the young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and is trapped in a world of bizarre creatures and fanciful adventures. The series ends with YLT's 1st Annual Junior Drama Competition (August 13 - 22, 2010). This program is an adjudicated presentation of original short scenes and one-acts written and directed by local area youth. YLT is seeking the participation of youth (ages 13 - 19) who will serve as writers, directors, designers, and actors. Call YLT for more information.
