People's Light & Theatre accepts the PNC Arts Alive Award for Innovation in Honor of Peggy Amsterdam at the annual Arts & Business Council Awards Celebration on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, 6-9 pm at Vie, 600 North Broad Street in Philadelphia, PA. More information about the celebration is available at www.artsandbusinessphila.org/awards2013.

AbiGail Adams, Artistic Director, will be accepting the award for People's Light & Theatre's free community engagement program titled Community Matters. The series is designed to provoke dynamic conversation about a wide range of subjects that are of particular interest to various members of our community through staged play reading and panel discussions. In its first season, People's Light succeeded in attracting over 1,300 audience members for 6 pilot events.

With the success of last year's programs, Community Matters continues for a second season beginning April 29 at 7 pm with a reading of Headstrong, a powerful new play about sports heroes, post-concussion syndrome, and the mythology of violence. For more information, visit peopleslight.org.

People's Light, a professional, not-for-profit theatre founded in Chester County, Pennsylvania, makes plays drawn from many sources to entertain, inspire, and engage our community. We extend our mission of making and experiencing theatre through arts education programs that excite curiosity about, and deepen understanding of, the world around us. These plays and programs bring people together and provide opportunities for reflection, discovery, and celebration. Founded in 1974, we produce seven to nine plays each season, in two black box theatres with 350 and 170 seats respectively, mixing world premieres, contemporary plays, and fresh approaches to classic texts for our 6-play and Discovery Series.

The Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia (ABC) strengthens our creative sector, including arts, culture and for-profit creative businesses, by engaging the business, legal & technology communities, providing capacity-building services, and serving as a thought leader and a convener. ABC, with the support of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, is uniquely positioned to actively connect the creative sector with the business, legal and technology communities.
