Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret to Headline Diner en Blanc Philadelphia's Pop-Up Party, 8/20

Diner en Blanc Philadelphia is excited to announce that the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret will headline this year's sold-out pop-up party. Martha will celebrate the group's 10th anniversary by donning her finest white and joining 4,500 guests at a secret location this Thursday night.

Additional entertainment will include The Canarsie Wobblers from New York City and DJ DJ Sabeel Chohan who performed at Diner en Blanc DC 2014 and Diner en Blanc Philadelphia New Year's Eve.

"Each year we strive to program to the history and feel of the space we select," said DEB Philadelphia Co-Host Natanya DiBona. "Last year we brought in Mummers, ballet dancers, an artist from PAFA and assorted street performers as a nod to the vibrancy of the Avenue of the Arts. This year we are celebrating our secret location through varied performances from Roddy Carravella and His Canarsie Wobblers, DJ Sabeel Chohan and the incomparable Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret. I am really excited for participants to see how each of these performances unfolds and for them to understand how they fit together in the context of our space!"

Diner en Blanc returns to Philadelphia for the fourth time this Thursday, August 20, 2015 with 4,500 white clad guests popping up in a secret location revealed only minutes before they arrive. Guests will celebrate dinner as artwork and repurpose an unexpected space. After guests unfold their tables and create their elegant picnics, they will dance under the stars to the sounds of the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret. Martha will celebrate her 10th anniversary by rocking the Diner en Blanc stage for the first time - and already has her white ensemble picked out and ready to go! Other entertainment will include DJ Sabeel Chohan and The Canarsie Wobblers.

ABOUT THE MARTHA GRAHAM CRACKER CABARET - Forget everything you know about drag shows. This balls-to-the-wall drag cabaret is hosted by Martha Graham Cracker, the world's tallest and hairiest drag queen. Backed by a four-piece live band, Martha Graham Cracker, hailed as "the Drag Queen King" by the Philadelphia Inquirer, performs new arrangements and mashups of songs by artists ranging from Prince and Crowded House to Motley Crue and Nina Simone, and a bit of everything in between. Martha, who celebrates her ten year anniversary this month, is played by Dito van Reigersberg, co-founding co-artistic director of Philadelphia's Obie-winning Pig Iron Theatre Company. She has been turning drag on its head since in Philadelphia in 2005, since performing for sold out audiences in New York, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., Boston, Austin, Louisville, and even in Poland.

ABOUT THE CANARSIE WOBBLERS - The Canarsie Wobblers are a dance troupe that specializes in the historical dances of the Jazz Age and the Swing Era.The group was founded by Roddy Caravella, Dancer, Jazz Dance Historian and Choreographer.

The Canarsie Wobblers were born out of the Jazz Age Lawn Party, a bi summer event on Governor's Island in NYC, founded by band leader Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra. Each dancer in this group is a professional in their own right from many disciplines of dance including

Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap and Swing Dance, all coming together to work for their love of dance of this era. All of the pieces that are performed are choreographed by Mr Caravella.

ABOUT DJ SABEEL CHOHAN - Sabeel Chohan is a native of Springfield, IL, is a self taught artist who trained in the Netherlands on music production and DJ'ing since the Summer of 2011.

Today, she brings a fresh musical taste to the nightlife scene in clubs and events in and around the MidAtlantic area. She has also been DJing for Victoria's Secret in the DC area since 2011.

Electronic Dance Music is her #1 passion and specialty but has such a range and diversity that she's able to entrance the crowds with her sets.

"Music is the rhythm that every heart beats to and drives those heartfelt feelings we hold dear. The essence and capture of music is what guides the soul and corse through my veins, steering me through life. It is this beautiful feeling that I want to reflect to the world. Some of the pioneers of Electronic Dance Music, such as Armin Van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten and many more have had such a monumental effect on me to create epic music.
