BlakDance will bring to Perth WA premieres of two bold works, The Other Side of Me by Gary Lang NT Dance Company (State Theatre Centre 30 April - 2 May), and SILENCE by Karul Projects at His Majesty’s Theatre (1-2 May).
Tennessee Williams' classic play THE GLASS MENAGERIE transformed the stage at His Majesty’s Theatre with some modern touches that enhance how this story is told. Black Swan Theatre Company’s creative talents (and talented creatives) come to the fore to deliver a memorable and thought-provoking performance.
Based on the hit 1998 movie of the same name, THE WEDDING SINGER is set to charm audiences throughout Australia in early 2022. Playing the role of Robby is Christian Charisiou in his breakout role. I caught up with Charisiou to hear his thoughts on the cast, what it means to him, and what audiences can expect when the show opens.
The first ever Perth International Cabaret Festival has taken over His Majesty’s Theatre and is currently in full swing with a blockbuster line up of performers. Artistic director Michael Griffiths took a break from his crowded schedule to chat about how the festival is going and what he has in mind for the upcoming shows and the festival overall.
The disappointment of WAAPA’s 2020 mid-year musical being cancelled was but a distant memory as they roared back with an energetic rendition of CRAZY FOR YOU. This is WAAPA’s first production to be staged at His Majesty’s Theatre, and the cast and crew showcased the full suite of their talents in this up-beat and entertaining production.
CRAZY FOR YOU is a tough musical. It won a swag of awards upon its release in 1992, and it showcases some of the biggest songs the Gershwins wrote in one musical. Indeed, when WAAPA staged CRAZY FOR YOU in 2012, it was their highest grossing musical ever. They’re aiming high with their first production staged at His Majesty’s Theatre.
WA Opera are bringing Stephen Sondheim's much-loved musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to His Majesty's Theatre this July, and we caught up with opera star Antoinette Halloran, who joins the cast as the infamous Mrs. Lovett.
