New York City Center has just reopened following a historic renovation and modernization with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and star-studded gala last night, October 25 at New York City Center. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg conducted The Encores! Orchestra in the opening number (as a nod to Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia, who conducted the New York Philharmonic when City Center opened as a performing arts center in 1943). Vera Farmiga's directorial debut, HIGHER GROUND, is a coming-of-age drama in which Farmiga delivers a subtle, nuanced performance completely from the gut, with equally strong and compelling supporting characters. Set against the backdrop of the Sixties, when feminism reached its zenith, the film expertly depicts the landscape of a tight-knit spiritual community. Inspired by the resonant memoir from Carolyn Briggs (who also wrote the screenplay) the film is an exquisite study of one woman's internal struggle with the primary love relationships in her life. John Hawkes, Donna Murphy, Bill Irwin, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Joshua Leonard round out the cast, along with Farmiga's younger sister Taissa, who proves herself to be an extraordinary new talent as Young Corinne.

Olympia Dukakis will lead a special production of Tennessee Williams' The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore at the Harold and Miram Steinberg Center for Theatre in the Laura Pels Theatre in January. Anything Goes, starring Broadway darling Sutton Foster, sails into the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in March. Finally, Donna Murphy stars in the new musical, The People In The Picture, which will follow The Importance Of Being Earnest at the American Airlines Theatre in April.

Check out this trailer centering around Donna Murphy's 'Mother Gothel' from Disney's newest animated feature film TANGLED. The film is a modern-day take on the classic Grimms' Rapunzel fairy tale as an action-packed 3D musical adventure featuring songs by five-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken along with lyricist Glenn Slater and directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard.

The new Disney animated film, 'Tangled' has just released its official trailer for the November movie. The movie is a retelling of the classic fairytale, Rapunzel. Actors involved include Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Zachary Levi, Tony award winner Donna Murphy, Ewan McGregor and Steve Martin. Songs are composed by legendary composer and lyricist, Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. 'Tangled' will be the 50th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, planned for release on November 24, 2010.

Anyone Can Whistle is the final New York City Center Encores! production of the 2009-2010 season and will run for five performances April 8 - 11. The show will be directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw with musical direction by Rob Berman.
