Passion. Love. Vengeance. African-American Shakespeare Company continues its 19th season with MEDEA, Euripides' infamous tragedy about a jilted wife exacting the ultimate revenge on a cheating husband. Dawn Monique Williams, a veteran of staging the classics, directs, with Leontyne Mbele-Mbong in the title role. MEDEA plays Saturdays and Sundays, March 8-30 at the Buriel Clay Theater at the African American Art and Culture Complex, 762 Fulton Street (at Webster) in San Francisco.

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) today announced its programs for the 2014-15 concert season, conductor Jacques Lacombe's fifth year as the Orchestra's Music Director. Fulfilling its mission as a statewide orchestra, the NJSO brings subscription programs to venues in Newark, New Brunswick, Princeton, Morristown, Red Bank and Englewood, with 14 weeks of subscription classical programs, four pops programs and three family concerts, as well as several special concerts.

Barnard College's Theatre Department, in collaboration with the award-winning nonprofit theatre company New Georges, has announced the second presentation of "New Plays at Barnard," an inventive approach to staging works by emerging women playwrights. This year's play, Blown Youth by Dipika Guha, a New York City-based playwright, will run March 6-8 in the Glicker-Milstein Theatre on Barnard's Morningside Heights campus.

William Shakespeare's disastrous tale of family feuds, loyalty, and teenage love has stood the test of times. Long Island City-based Titan Theatre Company opened it's second show of their critically acclaimed 2013-14 season on Wednesday January 22nd with the World Premiere of the highly anticipated second installment of Angela Iannone's "Edwin Booth Trilogy" THIS PRISON WHERE I LIVE. THIS PRISON WHERE I LIVE transports audiences to Edwin Booth's 1879 run of William Shakespeare's Richard II at the McVicker Theatre in Chicago. Stirring drama unfolds as the ghost of Booth's infamous brother, assassin John Wilkes Booth, pays a visit to Edwin at the McVicker. The Wooster Group has extended their previews of CRY, TROJANS! (Troilus and Cressida) through February 15 at the Performing Garage. The production is a re-working of their half of a 2012 collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company, focusing on the Trojan side of the drama as a pastiche American 'Indian' tribe.

The Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival's 2014 preview performances begin February 14, and the season will open Friday night, February 21 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre with Shakespeare's The Tempest (director, Tony Taccone). On Saturday, Lorraine Hansberry's The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window (Juliette Carrillo) takes the stage, as does the classic Marx Brothers musical The Cocoanuts (David Ivers), and Sunday afternoon Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors (Kent Gash) opens in the Thomas Theatre.
Smith Center Extends THE TEMPEST Through 4/20

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts has added an additional week of performances for the world premiere of a reimagined version of "THE TEMPEST" due to popular ticket demand, which will now play April 6-20. The Smith Center's first ever co-production, "THE TEMPEST" is produced by the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), adapted and directed by Aaron Posner and Teller from the play by William Shakespeare, with magic by Teller, music by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan and movement by Matt Kent of Pilobolus. "THE TEMPEST" performances will take place at The Smith Center's Donald W. Reynolds Symphony Park in a 500-seat climate-controlled tent, where no seat is more than 60 feet from the stage. Performances are scheduled Tuesday-Sunday at 8 p.m. with additional matinees at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets for all performances begin at $35 and are on sale now at The Smith Center box office, online at www.TheSmithCenter.com or by phone at (702) 749-2000.
