Sundance Institute Begins 2013 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation

The Sundance Institute Theatre Program has begun the 2013 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation. The 13th annual writing colony at the 20,000-acre working cattle ranch outside of Sheridan, Wyo. takes place through February 22 and provides a supportive environment for artists to create new work and receive guidance and reactions to it at an early stage. Under the supervision of Philip Himberg, Artistic Director of the Theatre Program, and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Playwrights Retreat is made possible through the generosity of Ucross Foundation.

William Neumann's RUTHERFORD Now Available From Arcadia Publishing

The newest addition to Arcadia Publishing's popular Images of America series is RUTHERFORD from local author William Neumann. The book boasts more than 200 vintage images, the majority of which were donated from private collections of local residents.

Sundance Institute today announced the seven artists selected for its 2013 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation, February 4-22, 2013. The annual writing colony at the 20,000-acre working cattle ranch outside of Sheridan, Wyo. provides a supportive environment for artists to create new work and receive guidance and reactions to it at an early stage. This is Just to Say: Live Art II, produced and directed by composer Inhyun Kim, features works by Ms. Kim, as well as composers Judith Ring, Nomi Epstein, and Sonia Megias, and performances by soprano Megan Schubert and pianist David Kalhous. This interdisciplinary concert, which also features work by Naho Taruishi, video artist and dancers/choreographers Coco Karol and Luke Gutgsell, takes place at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia theater at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway, New York City tonight, June 16th, 2012 at 7:30 pm. The 9/11 Peace Story Quilt on View at the Met Beginning Today

The 9/11 Peace Story Quilt, designed by the artist Faith Ringgold and created in collaboration with New York City students ages 8 to 19, will be exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from August 30, 2011 through January 22, 2012, in the Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education. The 9/11 Peace Story Quilt poignantly conveys the importance of respect, understanding, and communication across cultures and religions to achieve the goal of peace. Comprised of three 72-by-50 inch panels, each with 12 squares on the theme of peace, the quilt will be displayed alongside several of the students' original works of art that inspired its content, as well as related works made this summer by the Museum's high school interns.

The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May will be East Lynne Theater Company's honoree on Thursday, May 19 at the South Jersey Cultural Alliance's (SJCA) 16th Annual Paul Aiken Encore Awards Dinner at Bally's in Atlantic City. East Lynne is a proud member of SJCA, and this event offers the opportunity for members to recognize those who graciously support arts organizations in eight South Jersey counties. This year, thirty awards are expected to be bestowed, including the Alliance's own 2011 Lillian Levy Standing Ovation Award to NJN and a Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Marc Mappen, who was formerly a dean at Rutgers University and recently retired as executive director of the New Jersey Historical Commission.
