California Symphony Announces 25th Anniversary Season Finale: Lara St. John and Beethoven's Ninth

California Symphony, Contra Costa County's only professional orchestra, announces "Lara St. John and Beethoven's Ninth," its final concert set of the 25th anniversary season with performances at 7:30pm Saturday, May 5 and 4pm Sunday, May 6 at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.

Cali Symphony Receives NEA Grant for Young Amer. Composer Program

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced that the agency will award 863 grants to organizations and individual writers across the country. The California Symphony is one of the grantees and will receive $10,000 to support its Young American Composers Residency Program.

On the eve of its 25th anniversary season, the California Symphony has announced the selection of D. J. Sparr as its new Young American Composer-in-Residence.

California Symphony unveils a World Premiere by internationally-recognized composer Cindy Cox in its upcoming concert, to be helmed by guest conductor George Cleve. The new work by Cox is an orchestral piece for the entire symphony with extra timpani, entitled En espiral. The program also includes the Flute Concertino, op. 107, D major by French composer Cécile Chaminade, Concerto for Clarinet and Viola, op. 88, E minor by Max Bruch, and Antonín Dvo?ák's Symphony No. 7, op. 70, D minor. This concert will be performed 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2011 at The Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Center Drive, Walnut Creek.
