PCPA to Present MARY POPPINS, 11/7-12/22

Fresh from Broadway, PCPA will be one of the first regional theatres in the nation to produce Mary Poppins, the magical high-flying family-musical that is perfect for this holiday season. It plays November 7 - December 22, 2013 in the newly renovated Marian Theatre.

Artistic Director Les Waters and Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein are delighted to announce that Lucas Hnath's new play, The Christians, will receive its world premiere at Actors Theatre during the 38th Humana Festival of New American Plays. The Christians, which was commissioned by Actors Theatre of Louisville, will be directed by Les Waters and performed in the Pamela Brown Auditorium. The production will begin previews on March 4, open on March 6 and run through April 6, 2014.

Each year, the sights and sounds of the season ring throughout Walt Disney Concert Hall at the annual holiday concerts. Beginning December 10, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association presents eclectic and festive programming, including the very first Christmas concerts with Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil, Grammy-winning artists The Blind Boys of Alabama, Judy Collins, Chanticleer and The Count Basie Orchestra, Oscar winner Julie Andrews, and two very special performances on New Year's Eve featuring Sergio Mendes and Sheila E.

Songwriter Tori Amos and playwright Samuel Adamson teamed up with director Marianne Elliot to bring a new musical to the stage. After five years, The Light Princess has come to the National Theatre. The musical opened last night, Oct 9, starring Rosalie Craig as Princess Athea. The Light Princess also stars Amy Booth-Steel as Piper, Nick Hendrix as Prince Digby, David Langham as Flowers, Hal Fowler as King Ignacio, Ben Thompson as Zephyrus, and Kane Oliver Parry as Llewelyn. The Light Princess was designed by Rae Smith, who also desgined War Horse.

The annual Halloween haunt at Walt Disney Concert Hall features one of the most classic horror movies of the 1920's, The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney as Erik, the Phantom, in make-up he famously constructed for the role. The projection of the 1925 silent film will be accompanied by a live soundtrack performed by organist Clark Wilson on Halloween, Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 8:00 PM.

The LA Phil marks the 10th anniversary date of the opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall with a special Green Umbrella program presenting the world premiere of 200 Motels by L.A.'s groundbreaking iconoclast composer Frank Zappa. Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen leads the LA Phil, and is joined by L.A.-based director James Darrah and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Also joining Salonen and the LA Phil is a cast of renowned soloists and a band that includes Ian Underwood of Zappa's The Mothers of Invention, Scott Thunes, who also played with Frank Zappa, Zappa Family Trust 'Vaultmeister' Joe Travers, and Jamie Kime of Zappa Plays Zappa.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon, continues its year-long 50th anniversary season celebration with back-to-back performances of Orff's Carmina Burana, one of the most popular choral works of the 20th century, featuring Chorale member Timothy Gonzales, tenor, and noted guest artists Stacey Tappan, a "mellifluous" soprano (Wall St. Journal), Jose Adan Perez, a "glorious baritone" (Bach Track), and the ever-polished Los Angeles Children's Chorus on Saturday, November 2, 2013, 2 pm, and Sunday, November 3, 2013, 7 pm, at Disney Hall. Verdi's lush Te Deum, for double chorus and orchestra with roots in polyphony and Gregorian chant, opens the program.

Huntington's THE JUNGLE BOOK to Celebrate 100th Performance Tomorrow, 10/8

The Huntington Theatre Company's production of The Jungle Book will play its 100th performance on Tuesday, October 8 at 7:30pm. The Jungle Book is produced in association with Chicago's Goodman Theatre where the run began on Friday, June 21 and was extended by popular demand through August 18. The Boston run began Friday, September 7, has been extended twice by popular demand, and continues through Sunday, October 20. The Jungle Book is produced by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions.
