NewArts Announces Its Summer 2016 Season: Featuring Nearly 200 Newtown Area Children

NewArts, a nonprofit theatrical production organization in Newtown, CT, is producing its sixth and seventh shows for its summer, 2016 season incorporating nearly 200 children from the Newtown area onstage, backstage and in the orchestra as a continuation of its mission to use the performing arts to promote healing and strength. NewArts was founded by local parent, Michael Baroody, M.D. and brings in a talented team of nearly 20 theatre professionals including Broadway-level directors, choreographers, music directors, designers, producers, and technicians to guide the children in this endeavor of creativity, collaboration and community.

From Broadway With Love: A Benefit Concert for Orlando brought together some of Broadway's biggest stars last night to support the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, Hope and Help Center and Zebra Coalition. The benefit concert, which sold out within two hours of tickets going on-sale, took place at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Following the tragic event that took place at Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12, the Broadway and Orlando theatre communities will unite tonight, Monday, July 25 at 7:30 pm at the Disney Theatre in the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts to perform FROM BROADWAY WITH LOVE: A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR ORLANDO; a healing night of music and dance to honor the 49 victims.

Broadway's top musical artists are set to appear on tonight's (June 21st) telecast of 'Maya & Marty' on NBC to perform 'What the World Needs Now Is Love,' an updated version of the classic Burt Bacharach/Hal David song that is helping to support the devastated LGBT community of Orlando, Fla. A slew of stage vets rehearsed the song earlier today, and Seth Rudetsky captured a sneak preview.

Broadway Records President Van Dean, SiriusXM Radio Host Seth Rudetsky and Producer James Wesley launched the charitable initiative Broadway for Orlando with an all-star roster of theater artists recording the benefit single 'What the World Needs Now is Love,' at Avatar Studios. Created to honor the victims and those wounded in the Orlando shooting massacre at Pulse nightclub and aid the surrounding community, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the song will benefit the LGBT Center of Central Florida. Last evening, the Palace Theater (Waterbury, CT) hosted the eighth annual Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards, a black tie gala event that celebrates the arts and recognizes individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performances as exhibited by Connecticut high school students. 20 schools from across the state came together to celebrate the achievement, craft and talents that make high-quality, musical theater education happen.
