WordStage Literary Concerts Presents HOW HE LIED TO HER HUSBAND 9/30
by Ashlee Latimer - Sep 18, 2016

Shaw stated that, "Nothing in the theatre is staler than the situation of husband, wife and lover, or the fun of knockabout farce. I have taken both, and got an original play out of them, as anybody else can if only he will look about him for his material instead of plagiarizing Othello and the thousand plays that have proceeded on Othello's romantic assumptions and false point of honor."

BWW Reviews: A CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS - A Massive and Impressive Undertaking at Dobama
by Roy Berko - Dec 8, 2014

Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel is noted for crafting play scripts which impact directly on the lives of people. A review of her works illustrates that she writes about issues that need to be expressed (AIDS, sexual abuse, prostitution, degradation of the individual), she favors writing about emotional circumstances which she expresses in narrative structures, and her works contain theatrical requirements that make for better viewing, than reading.

Little did Artistic Director Pat Ciamacco realize when he elected to produce Reginald Rose's 12 ANGRY MEN that his selection would be fortuitous. How could he have known that the Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman trials would be the major news stories, with the latter being decided the day Blank Canvas's production opened.

BWW Reviews: MIRCLE & WONDER - A Welcome Change From Usual Holiday Fare
by Roy Berko - Nov 20, 2012

Ensemble's Stagewright's concept is an excellent means for local playwrights to try out their writing skills, get constructive feedback, and hopefully get their works staged. Congratulations to Jonathan Wilhelm for developing the often delightful MIRACLE & WONDER. Though it needs some refinements, and a more clearly directed concept, it is both entertaining and thought provoking and a change from the usual holiday theatre fare.

WordStage Presents ECCENTRICITIES OF THE VELVET GENTLEMAN, 9/21-22
by Nicole Rosky - Sep 11, 2012

Only decades after his death in 1925 was French composer Erik Satie hailed as a genius of contemporary classical music. His work was extremely simple in structure, yet innovative and marked by a characteristic wryness and wit. His reliance on unusual harmonic configurations was a reaction against the heavy, symbol-rich music of his era, a time when the works of Romantic European composers like Richard Wagner were still very much in vogue, and the highly decorated Impressionism of his friend, Claude Debussy, was ascendant. Satie left a relatively scarce body of work behind, most of it written for the piano. But his groundbreaking use of bitonal or polytonal notes and "broken" rhythms would become a benchmark of twentieth-century modernist music.

A humorous retelling of the biblical story of Joseph of Canaan. Center stage will be awash with a rainbow of colors in this rollicking musical, complete with an amazing light show, buoyant choreography, splashy costumes, and musical stylings that appeal to all tastes-from Marleyesque reggae to spur-slapping country western to an Elvis-channeling pharaoh. Preschoolers to their great-grandparents will delight in this entertaining extravaganza.
