OEDIPUS EL REY Extends Through 3/14

Spurred by critical acclaim and audience demand, Magic Theatre, San Francisco's home for new plays, has extended the run of Oedipus el Rey for an additional two weeks. This world premiere penned by MacArthur genius Luis Alfaro and directed by Loretta Greco must close Sunday, March 14th.

Humana Festival Continues with GROUND and PHOENIX, Beginning 3/2

The 34th annual Humana Festival of New American Plays, made possible by a generous grant from the Humana Foundation, will continue with the two full?length plays Ground, beginning performances March 2 and Phoenix beginning performances March 5. Both plays run through March 28.

Barbara Manocherian, Richard Willis and Anthony Barrile in association with Naked Angels (Geoffrey Nauffts, Artistic Director; John Alexander, Managing Director; Andy Donald, Associate Artistic Director; Brittany O'Neill, Producer) are pleased to announce that the critically acclaimed original cast will return for the Broadway run of NEXT FALL, the new American play by Geoffrey Nauffts and directed by Sheryl Kaller. The production will open on Broadway on Thursday, March 11, 2010 with preview performances beginning Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Helen Hayes Theatre (240 West 44th Street).

EATING THEIR WORDS Announces Menu for Tocqueville Valentine’s Day Event

Tocqueville Restaurant and Eating Their Words, the one-of-a-kind company that blends the performing and culinary arts, announce the exquisite menu for their special Valentine's Day lunch event. Tocqueville and Eating Their Words' October collaboration was a sold-out success. For this intimate holiday event, Tocqueville's Executive Chef and owner, Marco Moreira, joins forces with playwrights Theresa Rebeck (Pulitzer finalist, Mauritius), Jonathan Marc Sherman (Things We Want), and Sam Forman (The Rise and Fall of Annie Hall). Three original plays, performed between the courses they inspired, are brought to life by Tony Award nominee Isabel Keating (The Boy from Oz), Christopher Evan Welch (Festen, Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Austin Lysy (The American Plan), and Aya Cash (Killers and Other Family). Cash, Keating, Lysy, and Welch Announced for Valentine's Day's EATING THEIR WORDS, 2/14

Aya Cash, Isabel Keating, Austin Lysy, and Christopher Evan Welch will be a part of the Valentine's Day presentation of EATING THEIR WORDS. The event will take place at Tocqueville Restaurant and will present a menu with each course based on one of three different plays. The plays will be presented in tandem with the different courses. Marlo Hunter will direct the evening.

Philadelphia Theatre Company announces that two-time Tony Award-nominee and film actress Kathleen Turner will star in the world premiere of RED HOT PATRIOT: THE KICK-ASS WIT OF MOLLY IVINS by Margaret Engel and Allison Engel. Directed by award-winning director David Esbjornson, this one-woman play based on the writings of the late political journalist Molly Ivins will take the slot previously slated for MAURITIUS by Theresa Rebeck. Naked Angels company members and special guests will stage a benefit performance of selected pieces from The Issues Project: Collected Plays, a collection of Naked Angels-produced short plays recently published by Playscripts, Inc. The benefit will be held at The Peter Jay Sharp Theatre (416 West 42nd Street) on Thursday, January 28th at 7:30 PM. The one-hour program will be hosted and directed by Artistic Director Geoffrey Nauffts, and will be followed by a VIP reception with the artists. Proceeds from the sold-out event will benefit Naked Angels' New Play Development Fund.

The New School Welcomes Doug Hughes for Spring Semester

The New School for Drama has announced that the award-winning director Doug Hughes will be teaching this spring semester. Working with professionals, like Hughes in the New York theater world is a cornerstone of Drama students' experience at The New School. In the intimate setting of the classroom, Hughes will be teaching Directing Chekov and Beckett to second-year students earning an MFA in directing.
