The Wendy Wasserstein Prize committee and administrator, the Theatre Development Fund, caused quite the stir this month when reports flourished that the $25,000 prize would not be awarded to an emerging female playwright this year. Out of 19 nominees, the panel stated that none could be deemed 'truly outstanding.'

The Jewish Museum will present a fun-filled, multi-generational family day inspired by the exhibition, Houdini: Art and Magic, on Sunday, November 14 from 12 noon to 4 pm.

Playwright Michael Lew, on the official YOUNGBLOG blog (the group blog for the Ensemble Studio Theatre of New York's young playwrights) has written an open letter to TDF regarding the news that no Wasserstein Prize will be awarded in 2010 due to the panel not finding a play that they deemed to be 'truly outstanding'.

Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe and Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kate Levin today unveiled a new plaque at the TKTS booth in Duffy Square, honoring the site's history and recent restorations, while also lauding the efforts of Mayor John V. The production opens the theater company's 40th Anniversary Season, in which Mr. Albee will be making his Playwrights Horizons debut. The play is Mr. Albee's 30th.
