The Old Globe presents the world premiere of Steve Martin's new play METEOR SHOWER, an adult comedy, marking his welcome return to the Globe following the great success of Bright Star. It will be directed by Gordon Edelstein in a co-production with Long Wharf Theatre, where Edelstein serves as Artistic Director (and no, he is not related to Barry).

Victory Gardens Theater announces casting for each of the 2016 IGNITION Festival of New Plays selected works, including The Wayward Bunny by Greg Kotis; BREACH: a manifesto on race in America through the eyes of a black girl recovering from self-hate by Antoinette Nwandu; EOM (end of message) by Laura Jacqmin; Kill Move Paradise by James Ijames; Gaza Rehearsal by Karen Hartman; and Girls In Cars Underwater by Tegan McLeod.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team of the West Coast premiere of OCTOBER SKY, which will blast off the Globe's 2016-2017 Season with a tale of boys, rockets, and big dreams.

Know Theatre kicks off season 19 with GIRLFRIEND, featuring Book by Todd Almond and Music & Lyrics by Matthew Sweet. Directed by Lindsey Augusta Mercer, with choreography by Kim Popa and musical direction by Erin McCamley, the show runs July 29 - August 27, 2016.

Continuing its commitment to bringing free Shakespeare to the community and strengthening audience engagement with the arts, The Public Theater will mount its MOBILE UNIT again this fall with a free three-week tour to the five boroughs of Shakespeare's HAMLET, directed by Patricia McGregor.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team of the final offering in the 2016 Summer Shakespeare Festival: William Shakespeare's unabashed celebration of innocence, idealism, and the sweet folly of young love, Love's Labor's Lost, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall. This delightful romantic comedy will run August 14 - September 18, 2016, in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Previews run August 14 - 19. The Old Globe today announced that, due to popular demand, another additional week has been added to the world premiere run of Steve Martin's new play Meteor Shower, which will now play July 30 - September 18, 2016, with opening night on August 7.

New York Musical Festival (NYMF) presents FREEDOM RIDERS: a new musical. Performances will take place from JULY 27th through AUG. 2ND at JUNE HAVOC THEATRE.

This past week I saw two different musicals that have taken their inspiration from classic Jane Austen novels and, while completely different in size and scale, both have considerable merits. Broadway In Chicago, Stageworks Media and TROIKA Entertainment have announced that tickets for CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE will go on sale to the general public today, July 22.

Junkyard Dog Productions announced today that the new musical Come From Away will begin performances on Broadway in February 2017 at a Shubert Theater to be announced, following productions at Washington DC's Ford's Theatre (Friday, September 2 - Sunday, October 9, 2016), and Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre (Tuesday, November 15, 2016 - Sunday, January 8, 2017).
