Last year, Playwrights Theatre began the New Jersey Emerging Women Playwrights Project (NJEWP) as part of its larger ongoing effort to provide meaningful support to playwrights through an authentic development process that focuses on the specific and individual needs of the writer.

Opening night of the Martha Graham Dance Company at the Joyce featured an interesting pairing: a revival of Graham's 1962 Phaedra with Richard Move's 2002 piece, The Show (Achilles Heels).

Troy Schumacher, Director of BalletCollective (formerly Satellite Ballet) today announced that the company will make its Joyce Theater debut on August 14 and 15 with a program that will include a world premiere collaboration between Schumacher, composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone, poet Cynthia Zarin and new music ensemble ACME, as well as a revised version of the company's Epistasis (2012). Ailey II, the youthful and gifted second company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, returns to its home, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, from March 13- 24 for a highly anticipated two-week season - the first led by recently appointed Artistic Director Troy Powell. The 14 exciting performances experienced through two dynamic programs come on the heels of a successful North American tour to over 20 cities and an array of critically-acclaimed performances in Germany and France.

Celebrating their 25th Anniversary season, the Orion String Quartet joins the Bill T. Jones/ Arnie Zane Dance Company for a highly anticipated two-week engagement at The Joyce Theater from March 26th-April 7th.

Martha Graham Dance Company will host its annual gala honoring Judith G. Schlosser, Chairman of the Board, and Herbert S. Schlosser. With choreography by Martha Graham and Richard Move, the evening will feature musical guest Deborah Harry with an introduction by Patricia Field.

From tonight, February 21-March 3, 2013, Houston Ballet presents Stanton Welch's La Bayadere ('The Temple Dancer'), a historic classic staged by Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch and set in royal India of the past.

RIOULT Dance NY, a leading American modern dance company with a classic sensibility, announces its eight-performance New York Season June 4-9, 2013 at The Joyce Theater. The Season includes the World Premiere of Artistic Director/Choreographer Pascal Rioult's newest work, Iphigenia (working title), a dance drama inspired by the Greek heroine of the same name from Euripides' 'Iphigenia in Aulis.' The piece was created in collaboration with Composer Michael Torke and features his newly commissioned score, which will be performed live by the Camerata New York Orchestra. The Season program also includes the critically acclaimed On Distant Shores (2011), the powerful Prelude to Night (2002), and one of the company's signature works, Bolero (2002).

Recently at NYC's Joyce Theater Jacqulyn Buglisi expressed her fascination with Liminality, a threshold of ambiguous essence existing in both time and space. This obviously accounts for the many suspended movements threaded throughout her repertoire. May I be bold and ask if Buglisi's career itself lives in this liminal space?

WORKING WOMEN released some of the strongest artistic voices of the hardest working women choreographers in the dance community and in the nation. These endangered species can scream at the top of their lungs, bang loudly on the glass ceiling, and still struggle to be heard.

Houston Ballet has announced that Jean Joransen Ellis has been appointed as its first Chief Development Officer. Ms. Ellis will be responsible for developing comprehensive strategic fundraising plans and overseeing the development department at the company.
