Playwrights, directors, and agents alike will gather in Florida Studio Theatre's Keating Theatre on November 21, 22, and 23, 2014 for the National Showcase of New Plays. The National New Play Network is the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays. The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) has selected John Hurt, Stacy Keach and Dame Diana Rigg as the 2014 recipients of The William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre (Will Award), which recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to classical theatre in America. The Beech Street Foundation will be awarded the Sidney Harman Award for Philanthropy in the Arts. The awards will be presented at the Harman Center for the Arts Annual Gala on Sunday, October 5, 2014, hosted by STC at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW) and the National Building Museum (440 G Street NW).

Frances Hill, Founding Artistic Director of Urban Stages, today announced the 2014-'15 season which will launch with the American Premiere of the award-winning drama Shatter by prolific Canadian playwright Trina Davies.

The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Marco Ramirez's ('Orange is the New Black,' 'Sons of Anarchy') wildly theatrical new play The Royale, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated Rachel Chavkin. Founding Artistic Director of New York's the TEAM, Chavkin most recently won accolades for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Post Critics's Picks, and Top Ten of 2012 and 2013). The Royale will run October 4 to November 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run October 4 - 8. Opening night is Thursday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m.

L. A. Unified, a solo show written and performed by David Newer, will play at the Theatre Row Complex (410 W. 42nd St.) as part of the United Solo Festival on October 11th starting at 7:30PM. Erica Silberman directs Newer as he embodies 16 characters while recounting the chapter in his life as a substitute teacher in the often brutal L.A. Unified School System.

VH Theatrical Development Foundation announces the Off-Broadway premiere of THE BRIGHTNESS OF HEAVEN, a new play by acclaimed author Laura Pedersen, directed by Ludovica Villar-Hauser. THE BRIGHTNESS OF HEAVEN will be performed Thursday, October 16th through Sunday, December 14th at the Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street, Manhattan). Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) will open their 2014-15 season with Olives and Blood at the Nafe Katter Theatre October 2nd - 12th. Written by Michael Bradford, this new play stars Martin Sola as Juan Luis Trescante Medina, the aging fascist who claims responsibility for the murder of poet-playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, played by Nicholas Urda.

Mitchell Jarvis, who originated the role of mullet-rocking nunchuck-wielding narrator "Lonny Barnett" in the smash-hit Broadway musical ROCK OF AGES, returns to the show this fall in the role of wild aging rock idol "Stacee Jaxx," beginning Monday, September 15.
