Nominees for the 2014 LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards were announced on the evening of Monday, September 22 at Native Voices at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. The nominations were revealed by past Ovation Award recipients Gigi Bermingham, Brighid Fleming, Parmer Fuller, Jennifer Haley, Brian Kite, Glynn Turman, and John Zalewski, along with LA STAGE Alliance Chief Executive Officer Terence McFarland.

Florida Studio Theatre's WRITE A PLAY season will kick off in the Keating Theatre with RAP-Punzel by Beth Duda and Adam Ratner. Directed by Associate Artist, Jason Cannon, performances begin in the Keating Theatre tonight, September 23 and will play through November 14 to students from Sarasota and Manatee County schools.
L.A, UNIFIED to Play United Solo Fest, 10/11 & 20

L. A. Unified, a solo show written and performed by David Newer, will play at the Theatre Row Complex (410 W. 42nd St.) as part of the United Solo Festival on October 11th and 20th starting at 7:30PM. Erica Silberman directs Newer as he embodies 16 characters while recounting the chapter in his life as a substitute teacher in the often brutal L.A. Unified School System.

Canadian Burlesque Star, Rosie Bitts, makes her New York City debut in her new solo-show, Stories of Love and Passion which is being presented by the Untied Solo Theatre Festival. Stories of Love and Passion is written and performed by Rosie Bitts, directed and dramaturged by Suzanne Bachner and accompanied by Jeff Poynter. Rosie will be donating 5% of all profits from her solo work, Stories of Love and Passion, to local organizations that advocate for sex workers.

Jenen has announced the four plays in its 2014-15 season, continuing the theater's 37 year commitment to producing the finest work by women in the theater. Beginning in October, WP Theater's season will include new work by Cori Thomas (My Secret Language of Wishes), directed by Daniella Topol (Charles Ives take Me Home, Row After Row); Kate Benson (Lee Miller), directed by Lee Sunday Evans (The Play About My Dad); Tanya Barfield (The Call, Blue Door), directed by Leigh Silverman (Violet--Tony Nominee, Chinglish, Well), and Laura Eason (Sex With Strangers, "House of Cards"), directed by Kirsten Kelly (Slipping).

Due to early ticket demand, Court Theatre and American Blues Theater announce an extension to the world premiere of American Blues Ensemble Member Nambi E. Kelley's new adaptation of Richard Wright's classic novel, Native Son, directed by Seret Scott. Native Son will now run September 11 - October 19, 2014 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Avenue.

The Fifth Annual United Solo Theatre Festival presents the World Premiere of Baba, written and performed by Alex Mahgoub at Theatre Row Studio Theatre. After the first performance on October 1st sold-out, a second show was added on Wednesday, October 8th. Armando Merlo, who won a FringeNYC Solo Show Excellence Award in 2012 for his solo show, Salamander Starts Over, directs.
