The smash-hit musical Spring Awakening receives its regional premiere in Seattle this January, courtesy of the award-winning Balagan Theatre and featuring the very best of the Seattle theatre scene's next generation.

Transport Group,'s 2011 Gimme A Break! benefit honored playwright Douglas Carter Beane and composer/lyricist Lewis Flinn last night, December 5 at the Asia Society and Museum. Gimme A Break! began with a cocktail reception followed by a performance featuring Broadway stars sharing their 'big break' experiences through stories and songs. Transport Group, the Drama Desk and OBIE award-winning theatre company, has announced that its 2011 Gimme A Break! benefit will honor playwright Douglas Carter Beane and composer/lyricist Lewis Flinn on Monday, December 5 at 6:30pm, at the Asia Society and Museum, 725 Park Avenue at 70th Street.

Balagan Theatre will produce the regional premiere of Spring Awakening this January, directed by Seattle musical mainstay Eric Ankrim and featuring promising young local actors Brian Earp, Jerick Hoffer, and Diana Huey as the leading trio in this coming-of-age rock musical.

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin today announced the Company's 2011-2012 Main Stage season at a special VIP Sneak Preview held at the Addison Theatre Centre. The season opens with the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening (September 30 - October 30, 2011) followed by the return of the popular holiday show Rockin' Christmas Party (November 26 - December 18, 2011, underwritten by Frost Bank). The season continues in early January with The Diary of Anne Frank (January 6 - February 5, 2012), the Tony Award-winning play August: Osage County (March 30 - April 29, 2012), Boeing-Boeing (May 25 - June24, 2012) and Smokey Joe's Café (July 20 - August 19, 2012). Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the second round of 2011 Edgerton Foundation New American Play awards granted to TCG member theaters across the U.S. The awards, totaling $762,000, allow 22 theaters extra time in the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, helping to extend the life of the play after its first run.
