Second Stage Theatre has announced two New York Premiere productions for its upcoming 37th season.  The season will kick off in fall 2015 with the New York Premiere production of Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews' new musical, INVISIBLE THREAD (previously titled Witness Uganda), in association with American Repertory Theater, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin).  The season will continue in early 2016 with the New York premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's (Stick Fly) critically acclaimed play, SMART PEOPLE, directed by Tony Award Winner Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, Stick Fly). Two additional productions remain to be announced.  (more...)

The organization's 32nd season will be extended by two weeks this summer.  The Hurst Theatre opens with the groundbreaking revival version of the musical CABARET, running in repertory with Other Desert Cities, Peter and the Starcatcher, and Junie B. Jones The Musical.  Following the regular season, the theatre recently announced the launch of the Aspen Theatre Festival, featuring new plays and musicals being developed for the stage.  The festival takes place the week of August 23rd - 28th.   Sundance Institute today announced the nine projects selected from 827 submissions for its 2015 Theatre Lab at Sundance Resort in Utah, July 6-26. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Lab is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community and is one of 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content. Award-winning Theatre Aspen announced the lineup for its 32nd season today, which will be extended by an extra week this summer. The Hurst Theatre opens with the groundbreaking revival version of the musical CABARET, running in repertory with Other Desert Cities, Peter and the Starcatcher, and Junie B. Jones The Musical. The annual All-Ohio Show is one of the most exciting projects that the Ohio EdTA offers to Thespians in Ohio. Each Thespian troupe may send up to six registered, inducted Thespians to audition for the cast and six registered, inducted Thespians to interview for crew positions. Once chosen, cast and crew only have three rehearsal/build weekends and one and a half days of tech/dress rehearsals in which to create an amazing production. The All-Ohio show is the featured opening show of the Ohio EdTA State Conference. The All-Ohio show intends to provide participating students with the experience of working on an advanced level of theatrical production. Involvement in the All-Ohio show is a special honor for the participants and schools, as well as an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. (more...)

According to a recent post by the A.R.T. the show already has plans for Broadway! The theatre auctioned off tickets to the show's opening night on Broadway as a part of its 2015 gala, teasing: 'See it in Cambridge before it heads to NYC!' Casting has not yet been announced, but a recent NYC workshop was led by Tony winner Jessie Mueller, Keala Settle, Bryce Pinkham, Christopher Fitzgerald, Barrett Wilbert Weed, and Eric Anderson.
