Don't let its title fool you - the Tony Award winning musical SPRING AWAKENING, playing now through July 8 at the Keegan Theatre in Dupont Circle, is no light-hearted walk in the park. It is an emotional and thought-provoking story, which, combined with a wonderful and haunting score, makes it an unforgettable experience.

The Alaska Center for the Performing Arts presents SPRING AWAKENING at the Out North Contemporary Art House this summer. The production is scheduled to perform on weekends from June 16 through the 30th.

La Jolla Playhouse will present The Nightingale, by the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening: Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music). Directed by Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (33 Variations, I Am My Own Wife), from July 10 - August 5, 2012 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre. Mazeppa Productions will be the first resident theater company in Philadelphia to bring the 2006 Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakeningto life. Opening on July 12, 2012, Spring Awakening will mark the start of Mazeppa's second season of musical production as well as its inaugural production at the Christ Church Neighborhood House Theatre in Old City, Philadelphia. Director Rob Henry, music director Jerry Kapral, and choreographer Dawn Morningstar will lead the cast of thirteen in staging the Duncan Sheik/Steven Sater musical.

According to the New York Times, Diane Paulus' upcoming production of Pippin might be heading to Broadway after it plays Cambridge's American Repertory Theater in December. Patrick Healy writes that producers Barry and Fran Weissler are looking into backing the show for a Broadway run. A spokesman told NYT: "It's a project that Barry and Fran are very interested in. They're huge fans of Diane. Right now they're just supporting the project."

This morning Olney Theatre Center Artistic Director Martin Platt announced the Theatre's 75th Anniversary Season. The award-winning Theatre's season will emphasize 20th-century American classics, new works, reinterpretations of classics and musical theater.

Virginia Rep Announces the opening of the Broadway hit, Spring Awakening, at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street, tonight June 15 and running through July 22. Winner of eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening examines the unbridled energy that ignites the journey from youth to adulthood. Featuring a live band, on stage seating, and an outstanding young cast, Spring Awakening is the first production under the Virginia Rep name after the merger of Barksdale and Theatre IV.

The Keegan Theatre presents a special engagement of Spring Awakening, which opened June 2, 2012 at the Church Street Theater in Washington, DC. Winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening is based on the play by Frank Wedekind, and features a book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik.
