BWW Reviews: BOOK OF MORMON a Merciful Look into Missionary Positions You Never Considered
by Anton Anderssen
- Mar 18, 2013
Starring Mark Evans as Elder Kevin Price and Christopher John O'Neill as Elder Arnold Cunningham, the comedy duo bring convulsive comedy to the stage rivaling veteran actors Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Each elder attempts to spread the good news in his own way; Arnold seems to pull scripture out of his a$$ to fit whatever point he is trying to promote. Kevin tries the traditional method but winds up having to pull the actual book out of his a$$ after it was unceremoniously placed there by a terrorist. It's never fun being the butt of a joke.

Critically acclaimed Rufus Wainwright has been added to the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) 2013 line-up performing a special program, Prima! Rufus! Judy! on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 8 p.m. The festival performance collaborates with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia under the baton of Broadway conductor Stephen Oremus for the two part concert. Wainwright explores PIFA's If You Had a Time Machine theme, taking audiences back in time with a performance of selections from his opera Prima Donna, featuring sopranos Melody Moore and Kathryn Guthrie. The opera tells the story of an aging opera singer attempting to confront her past and a reprisal of her infamous role as Alienor d'Aquitaine, Queen of both England and France. After intermission, Wainwright recreates excerpts from Judy Garland's famous 1961 Carnegie Hall program, considered one of the greatest nights in showbiz history.

by BWW News Desk
- Feb 21, 2013
Now in its 15th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook celebrates the best in American singing and songwriting with a new chapter in the Songbook story: 'American Songbook in the Penthouse,' a series of weekend-only performances by performers and composers presented in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse, an intimate yet elegant venue that brings artists closer to the audience in a cabaret-style setting. 'American Songbook in the Penthouse' embraces adventuresome performers and celebrates composers and lyricists, both newer and veteran. With a seating capacity of just 225, the Kaplan Penthouse allows acoustic performers to be heard the way they intend - near to the audience and without elaborate amplification. The size of the space also allows performers to interact with their audience to make them an integral part of their performance, something difficult to do in a larger, more formal venue.

BWW Blog: Tory Ross of KINKY BOOTS - Halloween Party Fun
by Guest Blogger: Tory Ross
- Feb 21, 2013
Happy Thursday faithful blog readers! Hope you had a lovely Presidents' Day. Over at Kinky Boots... we've been refining the details, massaging our arches and belting crazy high notes (well, Ellyn Marie Marsh has because of Stephen Oremus' GENIUS arrangements) in anticipation of MOVING INTO THE HIRSCHFELD TOMORROW. I was having mild amounts of anxiety about what to write about yesterday because I don't want to give too much away before we get back into our Kinky Northampton factory and then my gaze was distracted by a silly dance in the corner of the room. Yeup... Annaleigh Ashford.
