Three finalists have been selected for Center Theatre Group's 2015 Richard E. Sherwood Award.

Unbound Productions Executive Director Jonathan Josephson, Artistic Director Paul Millet, and Producing Artistic Director Jeff G. Rack have announced the line-up for WICKED LIT 2014, the 6th annual immersive theatre event that will take place at Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery in Altadena, California.

What of the Night? is a poignant saga chronicling the life of Birdie and her family as they traverse the moral and financial bankruptcy that is poverty.

It's 1962. A white man has been murdered on a hot August night in a small town in the deep South, and the local police arrest a black stranger named Virgil Tibbs. L.A.

The Blank Theatre (Daniel Henning, Founding Artistic Director; Noah Wyle, Artistic Producer) has announced an audience talkback session following the matinee performance of The Why on Sunday, September 28. The conversation begins at 3:30pm at the 2nd Stage Theatre in Hollywood. The event is scheduled to last one hour.

Nominees for the 2014 LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards were announced on the evening of Monday, September 22 at Native Voices at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles. The nominations were revealed by past Ovation Award recipients Gigi Bermingham, Brighid Fleming, Parmer Fuller, Jennifer Haley, Brian Kite, Glynn Turman, and John Zalewski, along with LA STAGE Alliance Chief Executive Officer Terence McFarland.

The production will run from October 3-November 8, 2014.

According to Blank Artistic Producer Noah Wyle, "THE WHY is a truly original take on a very serious and very complex subject: what is happening to the youth of America? Why are kids killing each other? Who or what is to blame? Through blended styles, mixed media, and a constant shifting between drama, farce, satire, and melodrama, THE WHY… manages to debunk several popular theories being touted by 'experts' in the media. Its continued relevance is frightening." And personally, I love theater that makes you think, even if there is no apparent answer to the questions being asked.

The Blank Theatre has announced that the first production of its 24th season will be The Why by Victor Kaufold, directed by Henning. The opening is set for tonight, September 20 at 8pm. The engagement will run through October 19.

GOOD PEOPLE will feature Katie MacNichol, Anne Gee Byrd, Gigi Bermingham, Wyatt Fenner, Sophina Brown and Martin Kildare.

This October, actress CATHY LIND HAYES will bring her show The Beauty, The Banshee & Me to the fifth annual United Solo Festival, the world's largest solo theatre event, for its World Premiere. Written and performed by Hayes, the show is a tribute to both the mother who raised her, and the woman who gave her up.

This decision propels Birdie, her family, and the viewer into a 60-year journey where estranged family and friends entwine and collide in poetic stories of love, impoverishment, and dreams. Maria Irene Fornes delivers a masterful piece of theatre that entertains us, humors us, breaks our hearts, and ultimately challenges us to examine our own complicity in the unbridled divide between the haves and the have nots across America today.
