Geffen Playhouse announces a premiere theatrical event for Los Angeles - ten years in the making. Will Eno's lauded play was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in Drama and has been translated into more than fifteen languages, with more than 100 productions mounted worldwide.

"This is a young person's form," Bill Irwin insisted when Signature's James Houghton insisted he and Shiner create a new show together.

It was a remarkable year of theater.

Signature Theatre's Board of Trustees announced today the appointment of Paige Evans as Artistic Director beginning July 1, 2016. She succeeds Founding Artistic Director James Houghton, who will step down at the end of June. Ms. Evans comes to Signature Theatre from Lincoln Center Theater, where she has served as Artistic Director of LCT3 since its inception in 2008. 

Signature Theatre has announced casting is confirmed and tickets are now on sale for Angel Reapers, written by Residency Five playwright Martha Clarke and Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winner Alfred Uhry, directed and choreographed by Ms. Clarke. Angel Reapers runs February 2 to March 13, 2016 with a Monday, February 22 opening night in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues). All tickets for the initial run of the production are $25 as part of the Signature Ticket Initiative: A Generation of Access. Signature Theatre has announced a four week extension for the special return engagement of Old Hats, created and performed by Bill Irwin and David Shiner, with music and lyrics by and featuring Shaina Taub, directed by Tina Landau. Serenbe Playhouse and AIR Serenbe (the artist in residence program at Serenbe) are proud to announce a new play development program unlike any other: the 1st Annual New Territories Playwriting Residency, a Writers-in-Residence Program for Outdoor, Site-Specific Plays. New Territories will bring three playwrights to Chattahoochee Hills, GA to develop new outdoor, site-specific theatre from January 17-30, 2016.

Long Wharf Theatre presents, in conjunction with Eva Price, THE LION, written and performed by Benjamin Scheuer, directed by Sean Daniels, from tonight, January 6 through February 7, 2016. The play will take place on Stage II. The press opening will take place on January 13, 2016 at 7:30 pm.

The Matrix Theatre Company honors Black History Month with the Los Angeles premiere of The Mountaintop, directed by Obie Award-winner Roger Guenveur Smith and starring Larry Bates and Danielle Mone Truitt. Recipient of London's 2010 Olivier Award, Katori Hall's gripping and often humorous re-imagining of events the night before the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. takes on new meaning with the advent of the Black Lives Matter movement. Los Altos Stage Company is thrilled to announce the Bay Area Premiere of Will Eno's whimsical and poetic tale, Middletown. Winner of the inaugural Horton Foote Award for Most Promising New Play in 2010, Middletown opens on January 29 (preview performance on January 28) and runs through February 21 at the Bus Barn Theater in Los Altos.

  Peter Friedman, Keilly McQuail, Naian Gonzalez Norvind, Robbie Collier Sublett, Joyce Van Patten and Mare Winningham will be featured in the LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater world premiere of HER REQUIEM, by Greg Pierce, directed by Kate Whoriskey. HER REQUIEM will begin performances Saturday, February 6, open Monday, February 22, and run for six weeks only through Sunday, March 20 at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street).

 In a special limited engagement, Signature Theatre presents the world premiere production ofGeorgie: My Adventures with George Rose written and performed by Broadway veteran Ed Dixon (Broadway's Anything Goes, Signature's Sunset Boulevard). Directed by Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Gigi, Follies, and Million Dollar Quartet), this one-man play chronicles Dixon's relationship with his friend and mentor, the Tony-award winning character actor George Rose (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, My Fair Lady, Pirates of Penzance). Georgie: My Adventures with George Rose will play in Signature's ARK Theatre from January 8 - February 7, 2016. Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere of Annie Baker's 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, The Flick. Under the direction of Dexter Bullard, who also directed the Chicago premiere of Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation, the cast features Danny McCarthy, Caroline Neff and Travis Turner as the three hapless employees of The Flick movie house. Previews begin February 4 (opening night is February 14; press performances are Saturday, February 13 at 3pm and Tuesday, February 16 at 7:30pm) and runs through May 8, 2016 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). The gulf between what's said and what isn't is at the heart of the sweet and whimsical comedy The Language Archive by Julia Cho, next up at Bristol Riverside Theatre on January 26-February 14.  Directed by Adam Immerwahr, the ensemble cast features Keith Baker, Irungu Mutu, Jo Twiss, Tiffany Villarin, and Julianna Zinkel.
