Just last night, Dramatists Guild Fund presented its annual benefit gala- Great Writers Thank Their Lucky Stars: The Presidential Edition at Gotham Hall in New York. Raul Esparza debuted 'The Flag Song' from ASSASSINS which was cut before performances began, and Patrick Page performed from Robert Schenkkan's ALL THE WAY. The Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's premier short play competition, announces the 30 finalists for its 41st festival. Chosen from 1,500 submissions from the U.S. and abroad, these 30 plays will be presented during a week-long festival August 9 - 14. All performances will take place at the East 13th Street Theater (Classic Stage Company).

Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble (CDE) concludes its 15th season dedicated to the woman's voice, and its ongoing mission of "performance with a purpose," with Shirley Lauro's A Piece of My Heart, directed by CDE fellow Victoria Alvarez-Chacon, and described by the Association of Vietnam Veterans of America as "the most enduring play on Vietnam in the nation." A Piece of My Heart follows tells the true experiences of six women working in Vietnam during wartime. The powerful accounts of these women - five nurses and one country western singer - take place before, during and after Vietnam, and each story concludes with a personal token left at the memorial wall in Washington.

Infinite Variety Productions to Premiere Sean Michael Welch's INSIGNIFICANT at The Kraine in December

FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade will present Infinite Variety Productions' World Premiere of Sean Michael Welch's historical drama Insignificant, directed by Colleen Britt. The production will run December 3-19 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery) with performances Thursday through Saturday at 7pm. Tickets ($18; $15 students & seniors) may be purchased in advance at www.horseTRADE.info. The show runs approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, with intermission.

Cultivating a night of two shows that really show the drastic differences between how men and women deal with uncomfortable situations, the Sun Prairie Civic Theatre presented "A Night of Bridge and Beer" this past weekend. Featuring two one acts, The Coal Diamond by Shirley Lauro and Lone Star by James McLure, SPCT brought in a lot of fans who were ready for a fun evening.
