SAN DIEGO (July 24, 2014)-The Old Globe will host the 2014 Globe Gala on Saturday, July 26 in support of the theatre's education and artistic programs. The annual event will feature a one-night-only performance by Broadway veteran and Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (Gypsy, Into the Woods, NBC's The Sound of Music Live!, "The Good Wife," "Go On"), based on her smash hit New York cabaret (and new CD) In Constant Search of the Right Kind of Attention. Nina Doede, Deni Jacobs, and Sheryl White serve as Co-Chairs of the 2014 Globe Gala. Leading underwriters include Audrey Geisel,Darlene Marcos Shiley, Conrad Prebys and Debra Turner, and Sheryl and Harvey White.

The Old Globe's 2013 Gala, "A Magical Evening," netted more than $1 million for the theater's artistic and educational activities. Co-chaired by Nina Doede and Sheryl White, the black tie event was held on Saturday, Sept. 21 on the Globe's historic campus in Balboa Park. Lead underwriters for the evening wereAudrey S. Geisel and Darlene Marcos Shiley. Other major donors included Debra Turner and Conrad Prebys, along with Sheryl and Harvey White, Nina and Robert Doede, Vicki and Carl Zeiger, Mary Beth Adderley, Pam Wagner, Valerie and Harry Cooper, Gillian and Tony Thornley, Pam Farr, Elaine and Dave Darwin, Joan and Irwin Jacobs and Laurie Mitchell and Brent Woods, with many other guests making generous gifts.

The Old Globe presents The Last Goodbye, a new musical fusing Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with the incendiary songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Conceived and adapted by Michael Kimmel, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody BloodyAndrew Jackson). Choreography is by Emmy Award nominee Sonya Tayeh ('So You Think You Can Dance'), and orchestrations, music direction and arrangements are by Kris Kukul. The Last Goodbye will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, now through Nov. 3, 2013. More than 100 local and national theatre artists representing more than 40 San Diego theatrical productions at a dozen local theaters will compete for the 2011 Craig Noel Awards on Feb. 6, the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle announced today.

On Saturday, March 27, La Jolla Playhouse hosted its annual Gala, the La Jolla Playhouse HONORS. Beginning this year, the Gala will launch a tradition of paying tribute to alumni artists and benefactors who have helped put the Playhouse at the forefront of American theatre.
