Dessoff Choirs To Continue 93rd Season with One Night Only Concert This March!

The Dessoff Choir continues its 93rd season with a one-night only concert, March 11, 2018, at downtown's Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral. Program includes The Little Match Girl Passion, the allegorical choral reenactment of the Passion by composer David Lang (b.1957), Bach's (1685-1750) Komm Jesu, komm, and the complete Chichester Psalms by Bernstein.

Pacific Chorale to Present St. John Passion

Pacific Chorale, the resident choir of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, will be presenting an intimate presentation of Bach's St. John Passion on Saturday evening, March 10, at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Newport Beach, to celebrate the Lenten season (which is from February 14 to March 31, 2018).

The Washington Bach Consort will perform Celebration: Christmas Oratorio on Saturday December 9 at 6 p.m. at the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. (4101 Nebraska Ave., NW).Christmas Oratorio, J.S. Bach's best known Christmas composition, was completed in 1734 for the Christmas celebrations in Leipzig, Germany. The oratorio was written with the intention of being played in churches and includes some of Bach's most lavish and varied writing for chorus, soloists and orchestra. With its thrilling passages for trumpets and timpani, gentle lullabies, dramatic arias, ornate instrumental solos, and rousing choruses, the Christmas Oratorio captures the full range of emotions associated with this joyous season.

On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, I attended the opening night of the Dresden Semperoper Ballett, under the artistic direction of Aaron Sean Watkin, at the Joyce Theater with great anticipation. I was excited to see contemporary ballet as it is presented in Europe. The flyer for this company describes its program, 'an elegant program that showcases classical ballet with a contemporary bend'. There was pointe work in David Dawson's two pieces and no shoes in the other two works. The dancers must have been chosen for their flexibility of spirit.
