Tap Dance Series at Children's Museum of Manhattan Kicks Off Today

A series of live performances - including tap dancing - will take place throughout the summer in conjunction with the exhibit, JAZZED! The Changing Beat of 125th Street at the Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM), located at 212 West 83rd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. The exhibit itself, in partnership with the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, allows visitors to sing along with Ella Fitzgerald in the 'jazz club,' dance up the stairs with Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson's, and meet Duke Ellington and his famous jazz orchestra in the 'ballroom.' Chicago Dancing Festival founders Lar Lubovitch and Jay Franke are pleased to announce today additional works being added to the 2014 Festival lineup, including two more World Premieres, plus plans for a pre- and post-performance sponsors party around the "Celebration of Dance" Grand Finale performance, Saturday, August 23. Free tickets for the Festival's indoor performances become available to the public this week, July 8 and 9. The 2014 Chicago Dancing Festival, featuring top ballet, modern and hip-hop companies from Chicago and across the country, is set to take place August 20 - 23.

Las Vegas headliners and Australian singing sensations Human Nature were part of musical history last night, Tuesday, June 10, as they took the stage during The Apollo Theater's Spring Gala, which celebrated 80 years of iconic performers and legendary performances. Departing from its tradition of inducting legends into the Apollo Hall of Fame, this year's Gala celebrated the eight decades of artistic brilliance that have been presented on the Apollo stage since 1934. Human Nature represented the Motown era during the star studded event, performing a 15-minute hit bound set featuring tracks such as “My Girl”, “Ooh Baby Baby” and “Ain't No Mountain High Enough.” The event was hosted by Emmy Award-winning and Grammy nominated entertainer Wayne Brady.

The Pasadena Playhouse has updated the performance schedule for two unusual one-person shows - Amy G in Entershamement and Joe Orrach in In My Corner - to reopen the newly re-designed Carrie Hamilton Theatre. Entershamement has a limited run of five performances, while In My Corner runs for one night only. With these shows, that perform today, May 22 to May 31, The Playhouse is relighting the refurbished Carrie Hamilton Theatre, which has been changed from a proscenium theatre to a black box, and can be configured to accommodate many different kinds of productions.

Cornish College Honors Tony Kushner and Deborah F. Rutter at 2014 Commencement Today

President Nancy J. Uscher has announced that Cornish College of the Arts will award honorary degrees at this year's commencement to ground-breaking American playwright Tony Kushner and to Deborah F. Rutter, president-elect of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Mr. Kushner is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Tony and Emmy Awards, and a recipient of the National Medal for Arts. One of the nation's leading arts administrators, Ms. Rutter assumes leadership of the Kennedy Center in September. Most recently she has served as president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and, prior to that, she was the executive director of the Seattle Symphony.
