Ripe Time to Bring Gertrude Stein's THE WORLD IS ROUND to the Stage, 4/17-30

Ripe Time, the Brooklyn-based company led by Rachel Dickstein, has garnered acclaim for creating physically charged, visually powerful adaptations of classic and contemporary stories by authors raging from Edith Wharton to Jhumpa Lahiri. Conceived, written and directed by Dickstein, the play The World is Round epitomizes the company's work, creating from Gertrude Stein's book a fable (for grownups and mature children) full of original, live music by Heather Christian and aerial movement choreographed by Nicki Miller. Ripe Time's first new show since its celebrated Mrs. Dalloway adaptation Septimus and Clarissa (2011), The World is Round makes its world premiere April 17 - 30 at BAM Fisher (Fishman Space, 321 Ashland Place, Brooklyn).

The Bushwick Starr will present acclaimed dance-theater artist, Jennie MaryTai Liu's newest work, and New York City premier of Actress Fury, a passion play of one tormented actress as she takes on the role of herself. The audience sits inside a dressing room encircled by mirrors, as three female performers contest with their own deep-seated desire to be extraordinary. The actress navigates an obstacle course littered with difficult conditions: physical suffering, sexual obsession, self-love that loops into doubt, and fear of fateful intervention. Dramatic scenarios unfurl through dance to reveal an anti-strategy about wrestling with ambition and being female in this 21st century moment.

Tony Award winner and dance superstar Savion Glover makes his Harris Theater debut on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 7:30 pm with the Chicago premiere of Savion Glover's STePz, a critically-acclaimed new work conceived and produced by Glover and performed alongside a star-studded ensemble of tappers. Glover's stop at the Harris also includes Glover & Friends, a special performance on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm, part of the Harris Theater Family Series.
