Ballet Hispanico To Honor Emilio & Gloria Estefan & More at CARNAVAL Gala 2018

Ballet Hispánico will honor Latin music superstars Emilio & Gloria Estefan with theNuestra Inspiración Award; legendary fashion designer Carolina Herrera with theToda Una Vida Award; and businessman and community activist Marcos Torres with the Civic Inspiration Award; at its annual CARNAVAL Gala on Monday, May 7, 2018 at The Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom, 768 Fifth Avenue, NYC. Cocktails begin at 6:30pmand dinner and dancing commence at 7:30pm. Proceeds, which totaled over $1.1 million last year, benefit the creation of new choreographic works, much needed scholarships for young people, and immersive dance programs for communities around the world.

Porchlight Music Theatre opened Porchlight Revisits They're Playing Our Song last night at Porchlight's new home, The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street. They're Playing Our Song features music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager and book by Neil Simon, with direction and choreography by Christopher Carter, musical direction by Andra Velis Simon and starring Lorenzo Rush Jr and Sharriese Hamilton.

Ballet Hispanico, the nation's premier Latino dance organization, seeks experienced male and female dancers with strong classical and contemporary training. A minimum of 3-5 years of professional dance experience is required. Auditions are for 2018-2019 season contracts with excellent benefits and world travel.

Porchlight Music Theatre announced that Lorenzo Rush Jr has replaced James Earl Jones II in Porchlight Revisits They're Playing Our Song, music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager and book by Neil Simon, with direction and choreography by Christopher Carter and musical direction by Andra Velis Simon. Porchlight Revisits They're Playing our Song is presented for three-nights-only Tuesday, March 6 through Thursday, March 8 at 7:15 p.m. and is performed on the set of Porchlight's Merrily We Roll Along (previews begin January 26) at Porchlight's new home, The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street. Tickets for They're Playing Our Song are $35.

'Nick Mauss: Transmissions' To Open At The Whitney

For his first solo museum show in the United States, artist Nick Mauss (b. 1980) will present Transmissions, an exhibition conceived for the Whitney, which explores the reciprocal relationship of modernist ballet and the avant-garde in New York from the 1930s through '50s. The exhibition-which features daily dance performances in the Whitney's eighth-floor Hurst Family Galleries-goes on view March 16.

Dearborn Street. Merrily We Roll Along is based on the play by the same name written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.

While MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG is quite a dark show, it's undeniably one of my favorite Sondheim musicals-and Porchlight's production does well to demonstrate why this is the case.

Sarasota, FL (January 30, 2018) - The Sarasota Ballet presents Ballet Hispanico, 23 - 25 February 2018 at the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, featuring three works: Michelle Manzanales' Con Brazos Abiertos, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's Linea Recta and Tania Perez-Salas' Catorce Dieciseis. This international touring company will arrive in Sarasota following performances in Germany and Norway and will head to Scotland following their Sarasota run.
