Magic ruby slippers, singing munchkins, a dancing scarecrow and an Emerald City all come to life again on the big screen when Theater To Go presents a special family sing-along of the classic film "The Wizard of Oz" at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre. This interactive presentation will take place on Friday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Run by Joe Maddalena, Profiles in History has announced that costumes from Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez will be in attendance. Taking place in Los Angeles, The Dreier Collection will be auctioned off today, July 28th, the Animation Auction will be July 29th and the Treasures from the Hollywood Vaults auction has been moved to July 30th and July 31st.

On Monday hundreds of girls ventured out to the CBC studio in downtown Toronto for an open call to cast the next Dorothy in an upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy will be cast via reality TV show Over the Rainbow, where participants will perform songs and be judged each week in the style of Canadian Idol. Wicked has clearly established itself as a runaway success, so I don't think what people need now is my personal "review" of the show. Ever since being nominated for the Tony Award for best musical, people have known that the show is good. During this cold winter season, it can be tempting to sit at home in front of the fire and watch classics like "The Wizard of Oz" play over and over again on TV. But why not get away from the TV and see the classics done a little differently this year, acted out live on stage? The community nature of Playhouse Merced's production of "The Wizard of Oz" naturally keeps it from becoming as outstanding as the Judy Garland movie (who can beat Judy Garland?), but it stands on its own with a lively cast of leading actors and a creative use of a small space.

The St. Jacobs Country Playhouse finishes its 2011 Season with one of the most cherished musicals of all time.

There's an old showbiz cliche that says that you shouldn't work with kids or animals. Luckily, both contribute an enjoyable, charming quality to 3D Theatricals' gargantuan stage production of THE WIZARD OF OZ, its latest stage offering that performs at the Plummer Auditorium in Fullerton, CA through October 30. Despite being haunted by an onslaught of technical glitches and unfortunate gaffes, the show still manages to be fairly fun and lively in its attempt to recreate a beloved novel and film for the stage.
