Broadway Global has announced the nominees for the 2017 Producer of the Year. The 2016 winners, Cathy Rigby McCoy & Tom McCoy, the first woman and first couple ever chosen as Producers of the Year (we couldn't honor one, without the other). Me and My Girl, a splashy musical about a British bloke who discovers he's nobility, and The Royale, a powerful play by Miami native Marco Ramirez, based on the first black boxing champion, took their respective places in South Florida theatrical history as Best Musical and Best Play on Monday, April 3rd  when the winners of the 41st annual Carbonell Awards were announced. The lavish ceremony was held at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, and   featured performances from each show nominated for Best Musical.

An old-fashioned, splashy musical about a working-class Londoner who discovers he's nobility and a world premiere play about the consequences of bullying received the most nominations in the musical and play categories when the nominations were announced for the 41st annual Carbonell Awards, which honors excellence in theater in South Florida.

'I was beginning to think it would never happen!,' says award-winning South Florida playwright Tony Finstrom.  'We first scheduled 'WAVE YOUR FLAG!' to debut at 'Jan McArt's New Play Reading Series' on Friday, June 10th.

Little Daisy Tanner will make her stage debut at Lynn University on Friday, June 10th, at 7:30 PM, when she appears opposite the First Lady of Florida Theatre, Jan McArt, in a staged reading of Tony Finstrom's new play with music, 'WAVE YOUR FLAG!'    

So now it's all here again on the big stage at Actors' Playhouse. There's a cast of 27 directed by David Arisco, the king of big musicals, who doesn't let a flat moment slip into the two hour performance.

?West Side Story, one of the greatest love stories of all time, returns to Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre almost 20 years since the company won South Florida regional theatre's Carbonell Award for "Best Production of a Musical". The show will run January 27 through February 21, 2016.

Can you hear the people sing? The Carbonell Awards judges did, honoring LES MISERABLES at Maltz Jupiter Theatre with 10 Carbonell nominations, the most of any musical production. Daniel's Husband at Island City Stage, a world premiere about the importance of marriage equality, garnered six nominations, the most of any play.

Votes are cast; polls are closed; and results have been tabulated! This was our biggest year yet! LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is the ninth show to be presented by Florida's newest venue, The Wick Theatre in Boca Raton. The production, featuring live musicians, has opened to rave reviews and stars Lee Roy Reams (who stops the show cold), Walter Charles and an equally skillful cast.
