NBC Will Launch NBC Kids July 7

NBC will launch NBC Kids, a new Saturday morning programming block designed specifically to address the developmental needs of preschool-aged children, premiering on Saturday, July 7. Programmed by the kids experts at Sprout, the nation's first 24-hour preschool television channel, this new three-hour block will feature educational series that promote active, healthy lifestyles for younger children.

NBC has renewed its critically acclaimed musical drama "Smash" (Mondays, 10-11 p.m. ET) for a second season, it was announced today by Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment.

NBC has released two new video previews from the Monday, March 5th episode of the musical drama series SMASH. In the first clip, Karen (Katharine McPhee) discovers what she 'brings to the party' in a sensual performance of James Brown's 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World'. In the second clip, Ivy (Megan Hilty) exudes Marilyn in her performance of 'Let's Be Bad', as rehearsal transforms into a Broadway fantasy.

NBC has just released a sneak peek clip of next week's SMASH episode entitled 'Let's Be Bad'. In the episode, Derek asks Karen to demonstrate to Ivy the 'correct' way to sing 'Happy Birthday'. While Karen does her best not to anger the 'Marilyn Monroe' star, Ivy still gives her a glance that suggests, 'if looks could kill!'

NBC announced the premieres of the new comedies 'Bent' (March 21) and 'Best Friends Forever' (April 4), as well as the comedic hidden-camera series 'Betty White's Off Their Rockers' (April 4) to its spring lineup. 'Community' also will return to the Thursday schedule starting March 15.

NBC's new Broadway-filled series SMASH has its premiere tonight at 10pm! The show, which is about a group of people who come together to put on a Broadway musical, was developed by NBC's Robert Greenblatt, Steven Spielberg, and Broadway producing team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Broadway's Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote the music for the show. Michael Mayer directed the project, and playwright Theresa Rebeck penned the script.

Butz will play the lead character in HEAVEN ON EARTH, the 'currently running show within a show' written by the characters played by Debra Messing and Christian Borle. He will perform an original tune, entitled 'The Higher You Get, the Farther You Fall' written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
