MATILDA Celebrates 100th Performance on Broadway

The Tony Award-winning Broadway hit MATILDA THE MUSICAL celebrated its 100th performance on Sunday, July 7, closing out another record-breaking week at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). The production broke a Shubert house record for the fourth week in a row, grossing $1,307,167 over eight performances for the week ending July 7, 2013.

MATILDA THE MUSICAL's performance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” will be rebroadcast on Thursday, July 4. Led by Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull, the cast initially appeared on June 11. “The Late Show” airs on CBS at 11:35 PM (Channel 2 in New York). Check local listings.

Adapted by Dawn McAndrews, Velveteen Rabbit tells the story of a toy Rabbit, given as a gift to a young Boy, who yearns for the day the Boy will choose her so that she can become real.

As it does every year, ticket sales are up all around on Broadway as a result of the Sunday night's Tony Awards, with advance ticket sales for Best Musical winner Kinky Boots up to $10 million and up to $21 million for fellow nominee Matilda. According to the New York Times, Kinky Boots will launch a national tour from Las Vegas in September 2014, while Matilda producers have yet to decide whether the British import will tour the US.
