by Brodie Paparella - Aug 22, 2016

David Mamet's tale of a clinical psychologist curious about con artistry has been revived for a spicy and insightful production at New Theatre. Lured into the dubious House of Games by the plight of gambling addict client Billy, Dr Margaret Ford finds herself entrenched in the schemes of a ragtag group of con artists. Coincidentally, she also finds herself entwined in the arms of the charismatic Mike. It's a recipe for disaster that tastes like a Manhattan.

BWW Review: THE HYPOCHONDRIAC at the Stratford Festival is a Clever Laugh-Riot
by Lauren Gienow - Aug 22, 2016

A hysterical production of THE HYPOCHONDRIAC opened on Thursday night at the Stratford Festival and the audience clearly enjoyed it thoroughly. Directed by Artistic Director, Antoni Cimolino, and starring Stephen Ouimette, this production is a version by Richard Bean based on Chris Campbell's literal translation of Moliere's comedy-ballet LE MALADE IMAGINAIRE (The Imaginary Invalid). Its humour seamlessly moves from crass poop jokes to clever satire, and everything in between, allowing for a very enjoyable experiencing that will leave you doubled over and laughing so hard that you might end up with more gut pain than the titular character claims to have!

BWW Review: ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS is Sheer Entertaining Theatricality
by Frank Benge - Jun 10, 2016

ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS by Richard Bean is an English adaptation of The Servant of Two Masters, the 1743 Commedia dell'arte play by Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. Bean has replaced the original Italian setting with 1963 Brighton. It first opened at the National Theatre in 2011, toured the UK and then opened in the West End in November 2011, with a subsequent Broadway opening in April 2012. The basic premise centers on eternally ravenous Francis Henshall (Martin Burke) who ends up being employed by two men at the same time: Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster, and Stanley Stubbers (Tyler Jones), an upper class criminal. Francis works frantically at keeping the two from meeting, so that neither finds out that Francis is working for two men at the same time. What no one knows is Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe (Amy Downing) in disguise. Her twin brother Roscoe was killed by her lover, Stanley Stubbers. Subplots include Pauline Clench (Madison Weinhoffer) who was to marry Roscoe in an arranged marriage by her father Charlie "The Duck" Clench (Michael Stuart) but is planning to elope with amateur actor Alan Dangle (Andre Martin).
