Eli and Edythe Broad General Director Plácido Domingo announced that LA Opera's season-opening production of Carmen tonight, September 21, 2013, will be broadcast live on a special presentation of 'LA Opera on Air' on Classical KUSC 91.5fm.

Tonight, September 21, LA Opera's 2013/2014 Season begins with a one-night-only special event as the Music Center Plaza is transformed into a glamorous setting for the launch of our 28thSeason.

LA OPERA's 2013/2014 season launches in grand style with the highly-anticipated opening of Bizet's Carmen! Conducted by Plácido Domingo and starring Patricia Bardon,Brandon Jovanovich, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo and Pretty Yende, Carmen is one of the world's most popular operas. Bizet's immortal score, with one delight after another, is a music lover's hit parade of opera's most intoxicating melodies.

The young internationally acclaimed South African soprano, Pretty Yende captivated opera lovers the world over when she made her spectacular recital debuts at the Teatro Alla Scala in Rome, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Wigmore Hall in London. Soon this Piet Retief, Mpumalanga born musical wonder will grace the stage at the Teatro at Montecasino on Thursday, 14 November 2013 followed by a concert at the Artscape Opera House, Cape Town on Saturday, 16 November 2013. The performance, which Mr. Domingo will conduct, will feature Irish mezzo-soprano Patricia Bardon as Carmen, tenor Brandon Jovanovich as Don José, Italian bass-baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as Escamillo and South African soprano Pretty Yende in her Company debut as Micaëla. The production, originally created by Spanish director Emilio Sagi and previously seen in Los Angeles in 2004 and 2008, will be directed by Trevore Ross.

Juan Diego Flórez will reprise his acclaimed portrayal of the amorous title character in the first Met revival of Rossini's Le Comte Ory, opening January 17. As Countess Adèle, the beautiful aristocrat Ory schemes to seduce, 27-year-old South African soprano Pretty Yende makes her Met debut. Bartlett Sher returns to direct his 2011 Met premiere production, which will once again be conducted by Maurizio Benini. The cast also includes Karine Deshayes in the trouser role of Ory's page, Isolier; Susanne Resmark as Ragonde;Nathan Gunn in his Met role debut as Raimbaud; and Italian bass Nicola Ulivieri in his Met debut as the Tutor.

Pretty Yende will make her Met debut as Countess Adèle in this season's performances of Rossini's Le Comte Ory, replacing Nino Machaidze, who is ill.
