On Saturday, September 21, LA Opera's 2013/2014 Season begins with a one-night-only special event as the Music Center Plaza is transformed into a glamorous setting for the launch of our 28thSeason.

The cornerstone of the evening is the season premiere of Carmen! The fiery drama of ill-fated love and jealous vengeance will be conducted by LA Opera General Director Plácido Domingo and features a high-powered cast that includes mezzo-soprano Patricia Bardon as the sultry gypsy, tenor Brandon Jovanovich as her enthralled lover Don José, bass-baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangeloas the swaggering bullfighter Escamillo, and Pretty Yende makes her LA Opera debut as Micaëla.

The Opening Night Gala begins at 5pm with a pre-performance champagne reception, a dinner catered by Patina, and lively entertainment. Following the performance of Carmen, the party continues with an wonderous display of hors d'oeuvres, desserts, dancing and cocktails - all designed with a Spanish flare. The Opening Night Gala will benefit our artistic and educational programs.
