On Monday, January 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall presents three-time Grammy Award-winning instrumental sextet eighth blackbird performing the New York premiere of Hand Eye by the composers' collective Sleeping Giant. Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016, eighth blackbird was recently nominated for its fourth Grammy Award for the ensemble's latest recording Filament. The group's new project, Hand Eye, was co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall for its 125 Commissions Project, in which at least 125 new works will be commissioned over the next five seasons in celebration of the Hall's 125th anniversary.

This year's honorees — Joseph Calleja, El?na Garan?a, Waltraud Meier, Anna Netrebko, and José van Dam — will be feted at a black tie gala celebration on April 10th at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. 

L.A. Dance Project (LADP) announced that its annual benefit, will be held tonight, December 12, 2015 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center, and will feature a one-night-only performance by Founding Director, Benjamin Millepied with former New York City Ballet (NYCB) Principal Dancer Janie Taylor.

Since its founding in 1974 by Paul Zimet, Ellen Maddow and Tina Shepard-former members of Joseph Chaikin's seminal Open Theater-the Talking Band has remained a cornerstone of New York City's avant-garde theater community. Ben Brantley of The New York Times recently called them 'one of the boldest and most venerable politically minded companies in New York experimental theater.' American Theater magazine has deemed them 'one of the most exceptional theater companies in the country.' The Talking Band will present in association with La MaMa the world premiere of its latest work, Burnished by Grief, a sinister, music infused romantic comedy, at La MaMa'sfirst floor theater from January 22-February 7.

To celebrate eighth blackbird's Grammy nomination for Filament, the group has released 'Pretty Polly,' a short animated film by Nathaniel Murphy, which uses Pretty Polly from Bryce Dessner's Murder Ballades (from Filament) as its soundtrack. In the murder ballad tradition, the music and film tell the macabre tale of a 'melancholy' sailor who murders his young wife. Watch the short below!

Celebration lingered in the air like a sweet dessert at this year's premiere of the American Dance Guild festival. Held at the Joan Weill Center for Dance, this four-day festival showcased the unique movement vocabulary of thirty-five different companies nationwide.

To celebrate Active Field and the complete Compositions edition, Perich will give a rare improvisatory performance with solo piano and 1-bit electronics at Roulette in Brooklyn tonight, December 3 (8 pm).

The rich diversity of contemporary dance will be on view for four nights, today, December 3 through Sunday, December 6 at this year's Annual Performance Festival of the American Dance Guild at The Ailey Citigroup Theater, Joan Weill Center for Dance.

Grammy winners Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, along with pianists Katia and Marielle Labéque, will release the world-premiere recording of Philip Glass' newest concert work, his Double Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra on Orange Mountain Music on December 11 exclusively on iTunes. Now, for a limited run, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts will present this production for the holidays in the Bram Goldsmith Theater for 24 performances beginning tonight, Dec 1 and running through Dec 20.

Appomattox is being presented as a world premiere of a revised version. For those unaware, the opera started out as an opera in 2007, was transformed into a play and now is an opera again. After Saturday night's opening, it would appear that more rewrites are needed.

WNO's season continues with the world premiere of the newly revised version of Appomattox, the first opera WNO has presented by the iconic American composer Philip Glass, with a libretto by the Academy Award-winning writer Christopher Hampton, November 14-22 in the Opera House. In the first act, we eavesdrop on history as the Civil War comes to its final resolution at the courthouse in Appomattox. Then, in the newly composed second act, we fast- forward 100 years to the time of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as the struggle for civil rights continues.  BroadwayWorld has a first look below!
