Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma announces casting and production teams for its annual summer shows, featuring new and returning national talent, including Mateja Govich, Christopher Rice, Kirsten Scott, Lindsie VanWinkle, Jeremy Benton, David Elder, Emily Skinner, Eleasha Gamble, Dan Sharkey, Lyn Cramer and more. All four productions -- OKLAHOMA!, MARY POPPINS, BIG FISH, and BILLY ELLIOT -- will perform at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City.

Anita Darian, a soprano whose four-octave voice earned her the nickname “The Armenian Yma Sumac” and spawned an eclectic 50-year career that ranged from performances with the New York City Opera, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic to big-band jazz concerts, co-starring roles with Barbara Cook, and hit pop recordings that included “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is dead at 87. A longtime resident of East Atlantic Beach, L.I., she died Sunday, Feb. 1 at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside of complications from surgery.

TV Host and Comic Skip E. Lowe Dies at 85

Skip E. Lowe, the comic, raconteur and perennial TV host whose weekly public access cable program has been airing in Los Angeles, New York and other major markets for more than 35 years--the longest in television history--and is generally credited as the inspiration for the Martin Short character “Jiminy Glick,” died in his home at Kingsley Manor Apartments in Hollywood on Monday, Sept. 22. He was 85 and had been suffering from emphysema and other respiratory ailments, though he never smoked, but blamed years of working as a comic in smoke-infested nightclubs. Lowe had conducted more than 6,000 interviews, often two a week, with guests that included Orson Welles and Bette Davis.

Patti Page was a trailblazer. She pioneered overdubbing in 1947 by singing duets and quartets with herself. She was the best selling female artist of the 1950s and sold 100 million records. FLIPSIDE: The Patti Page Story traces her beginnings as a singer for the Page Milk Company program on KTLU in Oklahoma to her success as 'the Singin' Rage, Miss Patti Page' in the 1960s. FLIPSIDE received 18 awards at the Kennedy Center National Theater Festival in 2011 including outstanding musical and outstanding performance by an actress for Haley Jane Pierce. Tickets for this one-night only performance tonight, November 16 at 8:00 p.m. at The Grand 1894 Opera House.

FLIPSIDE: THE PATTI PAGE STORY is taking to the road. In anticipation of the production's Texas stops, I chatted with writer and director Greg White about the show. He explains, 'It's not a revue. It's her story,' and that the show itself is 'funny and very poignant.' He also told me that the show has a little something for everyone. After all, 'they call Patti [Page] Country-politan. She was one of the first crossover artists that did country, jazz, and pop. Believe it or not she did some R&B. Patti did everything.'
