MARTIN, a new musical by legendary composer/lyricist Charles Strouse and bookwriter Leslie Lee, will be presented Off-Broadway by the Negro Ensemble Company, with performances beginning this Wednesday, October 19th. The limited engagement is set to run through October 30th at the Kraine Theater, 85 East 4th Street (between Second & Third Ave.) Under the direction of Jeffrey B. Moss and choreographed by Barbara Siman, the cast of MARTIN features Gilbert Glenn Brown, Dameka Hayes, Heather Massie, Kyle Minshew, Tony Perry, Raena White, and Curtis Wiley. The Musical Director is Skip Brevis.

San Francisco audiences first enjoyed this little-known Kern and Hammerstein musical when 42nd Street Moon's Lost Musical Series presented the American premiere in 1995, in a concert format. With the help of a recent National Endowment for the Arts Grant, the company is now able to mount the first full production ever seen in the United States. Low-priced previews begin November 30, and the show opens on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 6 pm at the Eureka Theatre. It runs through December 18.

The Sound of Music brings us the last of the magnificent scores from the pens of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The Australian production of The Sound of Music opened and was recorded at Melbourne's Princess Theatre in 1961 and ran for three years with a cast headed by the talented Australian soprano June Bronhill.
