The HAIFA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF ISRAEL recently received the Prime Minister's Award for being the leading performer of original Israeli compositions. Now, this illustrious orchestra will come to the United States for the first time ever featuring soloist, Pianist Roman Rabinovich, who will perform Pyotr Ilyick Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-Flat Minor, Op. 23. Led by conductor Boguslaw Dawidow, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra will also perform Carl Maria Von Weber's Overture to the Opera Euryanthe and Antonin Dvo?ak's Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95. Performing at Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium today, March 15, 8 pm., HAIFA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF ISRAEL performs at the Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, 10 Avenue of the Flags at Civic Center Drive in San Rafael, CA 94903. The new family musical special, The Christmas Rose, features a cast of over 400 and stars the multiple Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actress Jane Seymour and legendary Broadway actor and Tony nominee Lee Roy Reams. The Christmas Rose, with music and story by PBS composer Tim Janis, follows a young orphan named Annabelle, played by thirteen year old Bailey Grey, into the desert where she crosses paths with everyone from the three wise men and singing angels to Mary and Joseph, while being pursued by a team of desert bandits. The Christmas Rose is created in association with the Ogunquit Playhouse and is on stage at Carnegie Hall one night only Thursday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (212) 247-7800 or online at www.carnegiehall.org. Thomas Hampson - recently honored by the Metropolitan Opera Guild with the third installment of its prestigious "Met Mastersinger" series -started his summer at the Zurich Opera, where he brought "sensuality, warmth, and depth" (Die Welt) to the title role of Hindemith's Mathis der Maler. Next the baritone joins the Prague Symphony Orchestra for the world premiere of Sylvia Bodorova's orchestral song cycle Linqua Angelorum ("The Language of Angels"), before performing Bloch, Mahler, and Noam Sheriff on multiple dates in Israel and at the Salzburg Festival with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic; portraying Puccini's Scarpia in Tosca at the Santa Fe Opera; and singing Charles Ives with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Kent Nagano in Berlin. Hampson also appears in recital with pianist Wolfram Rieger in Austria, singing lieder by Schumann, Mahler, and Dvorak at the Salzburg Festival and songs by Barber and Schumann in Grafenegg. In a return engagement with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO), The Collegiate Chorale will perform 11 concerts in Tel Aviv and Haifa with the IPO under the baton of renowned conductors Zubin Mehta and Riccardo Muti. They will then travel with the IPO to Austria to make their Salzburg Festival debut, the first performance there by an American choir since the Chicago Symphony Chorus appeared in 1989. (more...)
