Playwrights Foundation Launches Des Voix...Found in Translation Festival, Now thru 5/27

Playwrights Foundation and Cultural Services of the Consulate General of France/SF is spear-heading a major new international exchange project, Des Voix...Found In Translation, that supports the translation of vanguard French and American Playwrights and promotes their work to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. The San Francisco festival features translations of new plays by three emerging playwrights working in France today. Plays by Marion Aubert (pink picture), Nathalie Fillion (blue picture), and Samuel Gallet (yellow picture) will be performed in English during a Festival, scheduled from today, May 25 through May 27, 2012, in a producing partnership with Z Space, a theater located in San Francisco's vibrant, cutting-edge Mission District and Deborah Taylor/FireMused Productions, LLC.

ANNA IN THE TROPICS performs in the Wilson Mainstage Auditorium, 403 N Main St in South Bend, two weeks only, June 22-July 1. Set in 1929 Florida in a Cuban-American cigar factory where cigars are still rolled by hand, Anna in the Tropics tells a story of passion and dreams. The arrival of a charismatic new lector, or reader, to entertain the workers in the factory creates a burst of excitement. When he begins to read aloud from the classic "Anna Karenina," the novel's romantic prose sparks hidden desires in his listeners which will change their lives dramatically.

David Snider to Join Arena Stage as Director of Artistic Programming July 2012

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater's Artistic Director Molly Smith has announced that this July 2012 D.C.-area arts manager and artist David Snider will become the company's Director of Artistic Programming. Snider will be leaving Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT), where he has served since 2005 as producing artistic director and CEO, to bring his multi-faceted, award-winning talents to the artistic team of Arena Stage.

Asolo Repertory Announces Programming and Events for HAMLET, PRINCE OF CUBA

Asolo Repertory is presents events leading up the Spanish performances of Hamlet, Prince of Cuba. Set in late 19th century Cuba, the show is currently enjoying a run in English at Asolo Rep and will have two performances in Spanish with English supertitles on May 3 at 8 p.m. and May 5 at 2 p.m. After concluding its run in Sarasota, the show will move to the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center in Miami where there will be both English and supertitled Spanish performances May 11-13. Hamlet, Prince of Cuba features guest artist Frankie J. Alvarez as Hamlet, Gisela Chipe (of Asolo Rep's Yentl) as Ophelia, Emilio Delgado as Claudius (known for his role as Luis on Sesame Street), Mercedes Herrero as Gertrude and Andhy Mendez as Laertes. The following programming will be offered in conjunction with the production.
