The China NCPA Orchestra - resident orchestra of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing - makes its Carnegie Hall debut on Monday, October 30 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage as part of a six-city coast-to-coast US tour, with programs emphasizing East-West influences in classical music and cultural exchange.

Project 305, a nearly yearlong project to crowdsource a symphony and accompanying film about Miami by its residents, will culminate in a free concert celebrating the diversity of Miami-Dade County and the power of music on Saturday, October 21, 7:30 PM at the New World Center (500 17th Street). The project is a collaboration of the New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy (NWS), Knight Foundation, the MIT Media Lab and Miami-Dade County.

92Y's 17-18 season opens on October 5 with internationally renowned cellist Mischa Maisky joining the “amazing precision” (Huffington Post) of the notably conductorless Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, which returns to 92Y for the first time in 15 years, to celebrate the cellist's 70th birthday season. Together, they open 92Y's illustrious concert season with Schubert's beloved “Arpeggione” Sonata, arranged for cello and string orchestra by Dobrinka Tabakova, as well as Arensky's Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky, and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings.  Acclaimed for the sheer intensity and vigor of his performances, Maisky has the distinct honor of being the only cellist in the world to have studied under both Gregor Piatigorsky and Mlatislav Rostrapovich.  The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra is renowned as one of the foremost chamber orchestras in the world, with more than 70 albums in its sprawling discography since its founding in 1972.

The Dessoff Choirs opens its 93rd season with Multidimensional Magnificence: a one-night only performance at Riverside Church inspired by the many concerts produced by American composer/conductor Gregg Smith. His devotion to choral music was greater than almost any one of his generation.

The New York premieres and world premiere production of Gordon Getty's Scare Pair, a double-bill by the San Francisco-based composer, pairs his two one act-operas -- Usher House and The Canterville Ghost -- together for the first time on October 19 and 21 (7:30pm) at The Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (located at East 68th Street, between Lexington and Park Avenues). Both works, with the libretto and music by Mr. Getty, will be sung in English and have a running time of 60 minutes each.

Music Director Designate Jaap van Zweden will open the New York Philharmonic's 176th season, leading two programs that feature the virtuosity of the musicians of the Philharmonic in repertoire both central to the Orchestra's history and new to Philharmonic audiences.
